Health Benefits of Omega 3’s

19 November 2009 One Comment

Core Omega 3I have to admit, I really haven’t known too much about Omega 3’s until I did some research. The only thing I knew was that they are healthy fats, but that’s about it really.

First of all, what are Omega 3’s? They are fatty acids found in fish oil and come plants that are highly polyunsaturated and longer than most other fatty acids. Huh? Yeah, that’s what I said when I first read it. Apparantly, these two characteristics make Omega 3’s very healthy for you! Fish that have the most omega 3’s are mackerel, lake trout, sardines, herring, salmon, and albacor tuna. There are 3 types of Omega 3’s: EPA, DHA, and ALA. Fish contain mainly EPA and DHA, while ALA is found in flax seed oil, canola oil, and soybean oil. All you need to know is that ALA isn’t as good for you as the others! What are the health benefits of Omega 3’s? (Information found here)

  • Help increase energy levels
  • Improve muscle recovery
  • Help to prevent cardiovascular diseases
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduces blood pressure and lowers cholestorol
  • Better brain function
  • Reduction of breast, colon, and prostate cancer
  • Fetal development

You can either get the good Omega 3’s from eating the fish I mentioned above or taking fish oil pills. If you’re not getting a good intake of Omega 3’s then you should start!

I take Omega 3 pills everyday and I love them! The best thing about them is that they don’t taste bad at all. Lol.
