The best part about it is it’s free! P90X has CHANGED MY LIFE and it can for you too!
MY STORY
Throughout my entire life, I have been in pretty decent shape. I was in the best shape during my college baseball career, in which I lifted and worked out 7 days a week in the gym. However, I was never “ripped” like I always wanted and could never quite figure out how to get that defined 6 pack. I was that person who always blamed bad genetics for not allowing me to reach my fitness goals.
After my college baseball career ended, I had let myself go. I became about 20 pounds overweight and completely out of shape. It was embarrassing, and I was very disappointed with myself, especially when I saw pictures of myself on vacation that year. Then it started affecting everything else in my life: my relationships with family and friends, and eventually my job. It reached a point where I had enough and was ready for a change.
I then began asking around and looking for a program or routine that could get me back into shape. One night while watching TV, I saw the P90X infomercial. It caught my attention because it was different than most fitness infomercials in that they showed the people in the videos sweating and working hard, which is something that you usually don’t see. After some online research, I knew the program was for me, and ordered the DVD’s and pull-up bar.
A few days later the P90X box arrived. I was surprised to find a nutrition guide inside along with the DVD’s. I sat down and went over the nutrition guide thoroughly and realized that I had to completely change my diet in order to get maximum results. I was used to not caring about what I ate, and knew that I had to seriously cut back on all the carbohydrates and junk food I took in. I was used to eating pizza, white breads, ice cream, cookies, cake, and any other unhealthy food that you can think of, but I knew that if I wanted great results I would have to make some sacrifices.
I started P90X the day I received it. After Chest & Back, I realized why this program was so effective! After I finished the workout, I just felt like lying on the ground and not moving, which is exactly what I did. The next day I remember being the most sore than I have ever been after a workout. I felt great and knew that amazing changes were ahead!
I soon found out that following the diet was the most difficult part of the program! I would find myself craving the unhealthy foods that I was once so accustomed to eating. Also, whenever I would go out to eat, I found it very hard to order healthy food and stay within my calorie limit. I knew that in order to reach my goal, I had to strictly follow the program, which is exactly what I did.
When I finished the program, I couldn’t believe the changes that I had made. I looked in the mirror and no longer looked like the same person. I was now more confident and in the best shape of my entire life! I had a legitimate 6-pack, which I thought was impossible! Then I was approached by my coach to become a coach myself.
I decided to become an Independent Beachbody Coach in July of 2008. I never realized that this decision would have such an impact on my life! Now, a year and 8 months later, I’m a full-time Independent Beachbody Coach, the current Top Coach in the nation, and making enough money to where I will never have to worry about bills again. This opportunity has changed my life, and it can for you too!

Hey, Josh! My name’s Lauren and I’ve been reading about your story. I’ve seen the photos and wanted to compliment you on your hard work and dedication!
My story’s similar, though I haven’t started the program yet. I played sports for ten years prior to having major knee surgeries at 15, after which my orthopedic surgeon said I would never run again. I didn’t gain weight at that point because I was so used to my routines that I was able to keep them going. Eventually, I proved my doctor wrong and joined the Air Force. While in, however, I started having joint issues where my knees dislocated while I ran. Since my medical discharge, I’ve gained weight but lost it dieting and exercising as best I can with my limitations.
Right now, I’m at 153 lbs.
This is about 30 lbs heavier than I was in high school, but not the heaviest I’ve ever been. My issue that I need help with is support.
I come from a family of “big” people, who have always looked at my weight (whether it was healthy or not) critically. I know from past experiences that they will generate a lot of negativity around me, and possibly try to deter me from completing the P90X program.
I hate to say this about them, but it’s 100% truth. I’m going to start a blog with pictures, sort of like what you did, at myspace.com/laurenmourer. If you’d like to be added as a friend to offer support, I’d really appreciate it. Anything helps.
Hey Lauren! Support seems to be the biggest problem area for many individuals, which makes it tough when trying to completely change the way you eat and take care of yourself. I have been blessed to have a very supportive family who understands what I’m trying to do, and doesn’t criticize me for eating healthy or working out all the time. The best advice that I can give you is to stay strong, and realize that you’re doing the right thing, no matter how much they might tear you down or make fun of you. Usually when people tear you down for doing something good, they are jealous and hate to admit that they have a problem themselves, so it’s a lot easier for them to tear you down than to realize their own problems. Believe me, I faced it all the time from others and still do. There are people who believe that my results are fake, but I know how hard I work and have worked to get where I’m at, so I don’t let those things bother me. Commit yourself and never give up, and sooner or later they will accept that you have decided to take a different path than them.
Hello Josh. First of all I would like to say congratulations on your results. I started the P90X workout program about 30 days ago and have been seeing some results so far however, being in the military it is hard for me sometimes to dedicate not only my time but my diet as well to P90X (got to take what you can get sometimes.) I didn’t even start the dieting until here recently, and I feel that it is the most important part. I have my NO Fury pre workout drink, and now started to take vitamins and an after workout protein shake. I am still losing weight but not gaining as much muscle as I was hoping for and the motivation is slowly starting to fall.
In the fourth week of P90X (phase 1) I was able to not only keep up with Tony in the workouts, but was also able to surpass all the numbers that they were putting out. having just started phase 2 however, I can barely even stand half way in between the workouts, talk about a mood killer. I guess the main reason I am writing this is because I would like some words of wisdom from someone who has done this already.
the supplements: will they help as much as everyone says? (GNC vita pack sport, NO Fury, and advanced Wheybolic Extreme 60) that is all I am taking.
should I increase my protein intake? 100+ grams a day?
how will I see results if I can’t even get off the floor? military workouts are nothing in comparison to this.
thank you.
Hey Josh is jooelpe remember? from youtube, well dude, i got a question is about the diet, there are a lot of things there and I wonder that if I have to eat everything like the book says for example the mushroom omelet, what if I dont want the tomato?
Thanks for your time
First of all, I recommend reading my blog posts under the “Motivation” category, which should help with your problems with motivation. Supplements definitely help with your results. Also, if you’re looking to build some mass, increasing your protein intake is very important. All I can tell you is to keep pushing yourself, and you should see progress from week to week.
The most important thing is to follow the proper fat/carb/protein %’s. So if you don’t like something, eat something that is very similar in nutritional value.
Josh- I am almost 28 i have 3 kids i am 5′4 and i weigh 115lbs. i have always wanted to be toned and ripped and feel comfortable (which means no overhang on the jeans when i sit down) I started p90x about 5 weeks ago. i dont have noticable results yet but i also got sick 3 times during this 5 weeks. I love the workouts! when tonys says on the weigh workouts – 12-15 low weights for lean and 8-10 heavy for bulk…how much bulk are we talking? because i want to be toned and ripped not dainted, but i also dont want to have to buy bigger shirts to fit my arms…so what do you think? 8-10 or 12-15? i want to ask you if you felt shaky and hungry all the time. the low carb was horrible and feel like i needed more in order to take care of kids all day. what do you think? i also think i might be hypoglycemic. i get really shaky and irritable if i don’t get enough to eat. i also wanted to ask you if you did only tonys work outs. his ab workout does nothing for me. so iv been doing another beach body ab routine. also where can i buy the protein powder. and did you use all of beach bodys food things or did you get your own somewhere else? is the recovery drink that important or can i skip it? i really want to achieve this and need someone to push me. the hardest part is my husband and his family are all over weight and could care less about being fit and healthy, so there is always temptation around which sometimes i do good and sometimes when feeling shaky i will eat anything to make the shakes stop. i would really appreciate any advice…i feel like you the one to help me- for some reason im drawn to you. thanks so much!
I always recommend 12-15 reps for all women. Also, when I got about into about the 3rd week of my first round, the low carbs started causing me to feel a little shaky and low on energy as well. That’s the bodys’ way of saying “Hey feed me!” So you might want to increase the cals and carbs slightly. Also, try eating an apple about 45 minutes before your workout, which seems to help me.
Beachbody supplements are excellent and definitely help with your transformation. You can actually buy any Beachbody products from this site, which helps me out some. Some women worry that whey protein will make them too bulky, but there is no need to worry because I’ve never seen that happen. My fiance likes to take whey protein shakes for snacks or sometimes even meal replacements. The Recovery Formula is an excellent post-workout supplement that helps with recovery, and is something that I highly recommend.
Also, I want you to read the blog posts I made on motivation if you haven’t done so already. Even though everyone around you might be tempting you to eat unhealthy and ridiculing you, it’s important that you stay focused and remember that you are doing this for yourself. Believe me, after you see some great results, they will be the ones who come to you for advice on how to lose weight. It happened to me! I can’t tell you how many people thought I would never complete the program or made fun of the way I ate, but those are the people who have now purchased the program from me.
If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at pioneerballplayer28@yahoo.com.
Josh
Hey Josh, i just recently ordered p90x and it should be here in the next couple days. I just thought i would let u know that i was on the fence about starting it and your youtube results are what motivated me to try. THANK YOU.
Awesome man! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hey Josh,
I was wondering do you have to be a certain age to do the p90x training system? I’m 15 and I’m weigh about 130 pounds. I’m about 10-20 pounds over weight and im trying to get ripped.. you think you could help me out? tell me what all I need to do and what to buy?
I have actually had many 15 year olds already go through the program, so no, you’re not too young! You are going to need the P90X Pull-Up Bar and either dumbbells or resistance bands. You can purchase those and the program from this site actually, and doing so will make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program! Let me know if you have other questions bud!
Hey Josh,
Yea sorry to be bothering you um so those are the only equipment i need? or could i possibly buy more? Now that christmas is almost here i could possibly get more =0 but yea I dont know i mean im not fat its just I dont feel comfortable with my body cause all my friends have 6packs and i got a belly =( haha yea just needing to get started i wanna look fit by summer.. do you think i could start looking good in
5-6 months? I hope so.
You could always purchase more equipment that will help with your results. I really like the heart rate monitor and push-up bars. If you can commit to both the workouts and diet, you will see great changes in 5-6 months!
hm.. ok well good lol I’m just trying to get in shape by summer time.. gotta show off lol but um what exactly does the heart monitor do?
The heart rate monitor keeps track of your heart rate during the workouts, which helps you know if you’re really pushing yourself or not. You can buy the heart rate monitor on this site.
Hi Josh, I was wondering, do I have to follow the P90X nutrition plan? I already am watching what I eat and counting calories. I have already lost 42 lbs to date and I want to lose 18 more. What should I do?
Thanks! Krystal
First of all, congrats on the 42 lbs weight loss! OK, following the Nutrition Guide will help you reach your weight loss goal. I followed it very closely and it has worked for me and many others, including my fiance. She followed it and lost about 14 lbs.
Hey Josh, amazing work with the P90X!
I seen many videos over the internet of people doing p90x and I can tell it really works by seeing the pics just like your video. The thing is I’m very skinny. I weight around 136 pounds and I’m around 5′8. I play soccer and run a few miles sometimes in the week. I was wondering if P90x was good for me because I saw parts where is full cardio and I believe is something that I don’t need ( I like cardio exercises but I don’t want to be skinnier hehe)
Please let me know because I’m a little ripped but it aint that much and I still want to get some mass because even if I got the abs and arms/back don’t look weak, me looking so skinny kinda makes it bad. I want to fit in the Medium T Shirts at least and get out of small size!
I eat a lot and it doesn’t help much to gain some mass so, if there is any protein shakes or something that will make me gain some mass without damaging my health I would like to know.
Thanks for the help!
Since you’re looking to gain mass, you are just going to have to cut back on the cardio and make important adjustments to your diet. You can find information on what I did to gain mass on this site. P90X still will be a good program for you, but you’re going to want to substitute most of the cardio with resistance workouts. Also, you can take supplements like whey protein and creatine to gain mass as well.
Hey josh!
i was wondering if you can tell me what you eat throught the day.
Its kind of hard following the p90x nutrition diet plan and stuff.
so yeah…if its no trouble, i would really like to know your eating schedual.
Thankyou-
You can find information about my diet in the “My Diet” section of this site.
Thanks for taking your time to give me a reply! I’ll look for the extra info and study what exercises to do and which one to avoid! There should be more people like you around, Thanks again, keep it up!
lol my bad josh i didint see that section.
right on dawg i am going to start that diet right now.
thankyou-
I’m glad I can help!
hey josh great results man…as a kid up to age 9 i never played any sports and just sat around eating all day long which mad me overweight for alot of years but then football started to make me loose weight but i could never loose my belly fat and thats still true. today im startin p90x ill be doing that at 5 in the mornig then ive got football workouts in the afternoon do you think this will get me results quicker seeing how im workin out twice and doin the diet?
There is no question that doing double workouts will help you get quicker results, but you really have to watch because you could over-do-it and either overtrain, lose motivation, or both. You also have to make sure you’re eating accordingly by increasing your cals to make up for the calories lost during the second workout.
Hey Josh my name is ethan and I’m a senior in high school. I’m a baseball player so I’m not overweight but just don’t have a six pack, close though. So I’m in my third day of my first recovery week, day 24 and I was just wondering about what day did you start seeing your six pack come in?
My 6-pack started really started to show around the end of the first month. Remember, the way to see your abs is to eat right!
Ok sounds good. I don’t really eat bad to begin with but I believe I’m gonna start to follow your diet within the next few weeks so my abs will really start to show cause they’re kinda there now but not really defined.
Josh,
Congrats on your results! that is way sweet! I am 5′9″ and cureently weigh 145. I’m in No means fat or built. I have been working to build muscle and loose body fat% to show off a sweet 6 pack. I was curious if you did any other exercise programs or just any other exercises to achieve the results you did. I’m 19 years old, in great shape. But I just want my body to SHOW how great of shape I’m in. I follow the diet plan pretty strictly and I do the workouts regularly. Is that all I need to do? I’m determined to get an incredible body and I will do whatever it takes. Do you have any tips or secrets that you wouldn’t mind lending me for help to increase my results? thank you for your time.
-Jake
Hey Josh.
I,am a 17 year old boy, and my body fat procent: 10 %. I,am 62 Kg, and 174 cm.
I have a little question for you:
I,am a student, and i dont have a lot of money, to buy weights, bands and so on. Now i really want to buy the program. But i will wait -and start when the school ends, if i cant complete the program without weights, bands etc.
So the question is:
Can i get ripped, without using bands, and weights etc. ???
I can make pushups, pullups etc. with a bag with and some books inside it… But its complicated with hand-weights … You know
.
PS:
I have to tell you, that your body is amazing. And its cool, that you help people. Respect.
Have a nice day !
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to complete with majority of the workouts without weights or bands. However, if you have access to a gym you could do them in there, just as long as you have the Fitness Guide that will come with the program if you order it from this site. Let me know if you have other questions!
Yeah man, if you follow both the diet and workouts strictly, you will get results! You can find a TON of other excellent diet and workout tips on this site, so make sure you browse through it. Also, make sure you go through the supplements sections because they are important as well.
Hey josh,
Sorry I have another question. So my overall goal is to keep doing P90x until I become 155 lbs. and under 9% body fat. As I said before I’m currently about 147 lbs. and I don’t really gain wieght very quickly. I was looking at the steps on the P90x diet plan and I increase my calories to Level 2 when I get to 150 lbs. I was wondering should I make the switch now and Increase my caloric intake to gain weight faster? Or stay at the same level until I reach that weight. Another question. As I am already probably under 10% body fat and wanting to gain muscle what diet should I do for the program? I’ve been doing the 2nd phase for a while now but I’ve been wondering if the extra carbs in phase 3 would be better? Thanks so much for your time.
Jake
Hey Josh, after watching your results, i am a believer in P90X. I play football and work out and diet but can never fully commit to getting the great body i’ve always wanted. I have one question. As far as diet/protein goes, what is the best pattern of eating? (before and after work out protein, vitamins and what not.) Thanks!
Parker
You need to look at the posts that I have about the adjustments that I made to gain mass. Here are the links: http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/2009/important-adjustments-to-my-workouts/ and http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/2009/important-adjustments-to-my-diet/. Let me know if you have other questions after you read those.
Take whey protein after the workout, which is the most essential time. It’s also important to take in a simple carb, like a fruit, before and after the workout as well. If you’re looking to gain some mass, creatine is a good way to go.
Hello Josh,
I am on day 35 of the p90x classic. Just like to start off by saying your results are phenomenal.
I’m 16 years old, and I began P90X at 122 lbs, 5′7 on November 1st.
Here is a quick little picture of what i began and what i look like now
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/QCjJ0hGVosI/
Most people ask how much i gained from those pictures but I actually lost 3 pounds and weigh 119 lbs at the moment.
I was wondering, is this… normal? I am eating with a strict diet and everything. I know i lost some fat but at my weight right now I am underweight for my height.
Another question, I have been taking two protein supplements daily.
I take a 55g scoop of whey protein with 50g of protein in it, mixed with a huge cup of milk, probably 300mL+ after a workout every time. In addition to that I take something called a “sustain-release” type of protein before I go to bed, hoping this will keep my body full of amino acids and gain some healthy weight. So far it hasn’t worked…
So I was just wondering is it healthy to be taking that many supplements?
Thanks for your time.
At your age, you need to be taking in a ton of calories, especially if you’re looking to gain weight/mass. Most people lose weight with the program, but that’s because they have the goal of losing weight. The P90X Nutrition Guide is mostly there to help lose weight, not gain it, so you will have to make some adjustments. At your height and weight, you should be somewhere around 2,700-2,900 cals a day, maybe a little more. You need to increase your carbs as well. Also, the supplements that you’re taking are great. The “sustain-release” protein that you’re taking is casein protein, and you might not think it’s working, but it is. It’s excellent to take before bed.
have 3 questions Did u use free weights or bands and what supplaments did u take? and i have minor back problems, would p90x be too much for my lower back?
(1) I actually used both, but prefer the dumbbells.
(2) You can find that answer in the “Q&A” section.
(3) It’s a very intense program, and you will be doing a lot of lifting and jumping around, so it’s not going to help with your lower back problem.
Hey Josh I am 5-9 275 and I am 47 years old. I have px90 and am about to embark on my journey. How important is the diet and calories consumed? If you have any advice I would love it. Wish me luck!
The diet makes up about 80% of your results, so it’s very important that you follow the proper one. Check out the “Q&A” section for more information about what to do with your diet.
Hey Josh, first of all congratz on your transformation. Actually I was on youtube one day looking at people’s transformation and I saw yours first and that’s really what motivated me to start P90X. I’m 16 years old, about 5′11 around 155 and pretty built for my age. By no means am I overweight or anything. I worked out at the Y and I just wanted somthng to work me harder and get better results. My whole goal really is to gain muscle and mass like you did. I’m on my 4th day and I started on fat shredder phase 1. It just does’nt seem like it’s going to give enough protein to gain more mass. So my big question is does it matter what phase you start on? Also can you give me any suggestions which nutrition diet to use in the guide because like I said..im not doing it to lose weight or anything.
Since you’re looking to gain mass, you will have to adjust your diet slightly, taking in more calories and carbs. I recommend starting on the 3rd phase if you’re main goal is to put on some size. You also will want to look into whey protein if you don’t take it already.
Hey Coach,
I got P90X a few days ago and am loving it! I’ve been a competitive martial artist for many years and (like you) regardless of what i do i can’t get cut! I was wondering what are some fast, easy, inexpensive meals you would eat while you were in your fat shredder fase of the program. and what supplements did you take? I look to lose 10 lbs and get that 6 pack ripped look by day 90. Thnx a ton.
Kyle
You can find sample diets of mine on this site under the “My Diet” section.
Hi Josh -
Im coming to you, because your transformation really motivated me. Im 25, 5′9″ and currently weigh 191lbs as of today. And is mostly in the tummy. I just got P90x and my goal is to get the 6 pack back and get toned, and later put on mass, since I would like to lose most of the fat first.
I have ordered the beach body recovery formula, body fortress whey protein, Jacked, but i heard some people mentioning glutamine, but from what ive heard i dont need any more because the Recovery drink and the Whey protein already have some in it. Also which protein bars would you recommend and I heard that I should take some kind of multivitamin? Again, if you could recommend something it would be great, since Ive never been very savvy when it comes to supplements and diets. Thanks,
Hugo.
It’s always good to take a multivitamin every day. Good protein bars are the P90X Protein Bars, which I sell on this site.
Hey Josh, I’m 6′, 195 pounds, in pretty good shape (work out 4-5 days a week), and I’m thinking about going down the P90X path. My main goal is to gain mass- awesome blogs about your diet and workout adjustments by the way.
I’ve always been on the skinnier side (even at 195lbs), and gaining mass has been tough for me. Should I be following the P90X nutrition guide closely, or just eat a ton? For the past few years I’ve been following the ABSDIETPOWER eating routine, but I think my downfall may be not eating enough calories. Also, I’ve tried Creatine before, but don’t like the bloated look/feel that comes along with it, so I’m trying to keep away from that.
Lastly, I’m planning on participating in my first triathlon in August (already signed up). Ultimately I’d like to be ripped with mass and be able to complete these high endurance activities as well. Am I trying to boil the ocean here?
Thanks-
Josh
If you’re looking to gain mass, you will have to take in a ton of calories and carbs, but if you’re looking to get leaner, then you will have to limit the cals and carbs. You could also do something called “carb cycling,” in which you increase the carbs on resistance days and decrease on cardio days.
while you were going through p90x did you ues any supplements or drinks suchs as muscle milk or creatine? just wondering because i am about to start the work outs once again. i’m 16 almost 17 and after a long practice i have trouble getting the energy to go straight home a starting yet another work out. its even more tuff to ditch my friends to go home and work out. your story is awesome though and i’m hoping i can keep the motivation that you obviously had to complete this program… and out of curiosity.. where did you play ball in college?
Hey Josh! I’m Andrew, a 5′11″, 19 year old Sophomore in College. My friends and I got the P90X system a few days ago and we plan on starting in a week. Earlier in my life I was a sports nut. Baseball, Football etc. 6 years ago (in 8th grade) I was in the best shape of my life, during football season. I have always struggled with motivating myself to do workouts as rigorous as those and I’m hoping the P90X will provide what I am looking for.
This summer I sustained a pretty large injury to my hand and lost one of my fingers. But I haven’t let that get me down. However, during the time I had a cast on I couldn’t work out or play sports, thus weight and fat gain resulted. This injury also prevented me from playing Rugby for my college in the first semester. I also have the hurdle of living on a college campus and having to eat cafeteria food.
I basically want to turn my fat into muscle and get the great results that you and so many others did. I was hoping you had some tips to get over the normal hurdles as well as the adverse cafeteria food challenges and the college life style!
Thanks Man!,
Andrew
Click on this link and your questions will be answered: http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/get-fit/supplements/. Also, I played baseball at a small private college in Ohio.
One of the most common concerns I get from people you’re age is the cafeteria food they are forced to eat every day. All I can recommend is to pack your lunch unless they are going to have healthy food. Turkey sandwiches with whole grain bread is good to eat. The one thing that you will experience with this program is that it’s very tough to stay committed to both the diet and workouts, especially after the first few weeks when you’re terribly sore, but the one’s who succeed are the ones who stick with it and stay motivated.
Hello Coach!
I am stopping in to say thank you for the motivation. Thanks for the advice on youtube.(Daysofnoah) I am about to stop by your diet section and get some good info. I definitely need to make sure that my diet matches my workouts. I am 6′3″ and weigh 223 lbs. I have a rather large shoulder and upper body frame and I hope I can build them up like yours. I am a pretty big guy to start with and I don’t mean fat I mean bone structure. My question is, what do you think a ball park ideal weight for me would be? The only place I have any fat is in my stomach and sides(love handles). Also, should I add a little more to the prescribed diet plan because I am bigger or should I just follow something for a medium sized person because I am trying to lose weight? The whole diet thing is the hardest part of this for me to figure out. The workouts are easy to follow. Thanks for your time coach!
I recommend following the diet plan exactly how it’s set up, following the Fat Shredder phase first. It helps you burn fat by limiting the carbs and then gradually increases the carbs allowing for muscle development. You can find great diet tips on this site in the “My Diet,” “Nutrition,” and “Q&A” section.
hello i have a question what diet you do?
You can see sample diets of mine on this site. Look in the “My Diet” section.
Hello Josh. I just purchased a p90x with the pullup bar. My wife would like to start it too. We recievd our package and we are gonna start on Monday. I am 5ft 7 and weigh about 180 pounds my wife is 5 ft and weighs 185. We were wondering which routines were best for us. She would love to get down to 128 pounds and lean. I would like to get to about 165 and gain some muscle mass.I use to wrestle in H.S and was a Ranger in the military. At 190 I don’t look bad just let myself go a bit and don’t have a sixpack anymore. What program best suits is or can we do One together to get the results we want
I actually recommend the Classic for both men and women. My fiance and I just went through another round of the X and I gained some mass while she lost body fat and weight. Have her use lighter weights for higher reps. My fiance uses 5lbs dumbbells for most exercises.
hey josh i put you as my coach but i cant seem to talk to you on the website in looking in gaining muscle mass and being ripped i saw your transformation and i would like to have the same results.
Whats up man,
Just looked at your results video on youtube, inspired me to get focused on working out again. Im 6′2′ and 168lbs basically tall and skinny. I want to mass up to 185lbs ,and stay on P90x. Any tips I would be greatful for! Or anything you did differently when you mentioned you massed up? Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,
Nick
Make sure you read the post on this site called “Gain Mass With P90X.”
You can find out what I did to gain mass in my blogs posts. There is one called “Gain Mass With P90X,” and about 3 others concerning gaining mass. Also, click on the link to make me your coach if you haven’t done so already: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hi Josh,
I’ve a question about phase 3 of the diet. Phase 1 and 2 worked well, and I’ve leaned out considerably. However, gearing down the protien so drastically and cranking up the carbs in the final phase has me scared that I’ll be giving back some of my hard earned fat loss. What was your experience with this? Did you eat that many carbs, or substiute some with a protien here and there?
What are your goals? Do you want to lose more fat? If so, then I recommend sticking with Phase 2 a little longer. I actually stuck with Phase 1 for most of the first round because I wanted to burn body fat quickly. However, if you want to now focus on just gaining mass, then stick with Phase 3.
Hey Josh!
I’m 14 years old and 5′3 but 130 pounds. I’ve tried a lot of diets but I’ve been told it is unhealthy for someone my age to do no carb or very low calorie diets, so I’m conecered about the diet plan. I also am too young to get a gym membership. I was wondering if p90x would be a good program for me. I have tons of motivation and I have the time. Is p90x healthy? Will I get the weight loss I would like? (10-20 lbs)
Thanks!
Hello Josh, I have many questions pertaining to the proper diet, but I’ll stick to the more urgent ones first. I know you must recieve many emails, so if you dont get back to this email immediately, thats fine. Im 20 years of age 5′ 9″ in height and weigh 140lb. I know how you overemphasize that the proper diet creates 80% of your boby when you meet that 90 day mark after using P90X whereas working out is the other 20%. I guess I’m living proof for that imformation you’ve provided just b/c I’ve worked out most of my life and never recieved the results I wanted. I can’t say I’ve ever been a huge eater either. I’ve done what you said and I went to fitday.com and make my daily meal plan. It was a bit to far off the nutrition guide that came with P90X when it comes to the amount of calories each food item was. So, I’ll get to my questions: Can I follow the same diet plan (http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/2010/p90x-fat-shredder-plan/)that you’ve created and, if I followed it carefully/correctly, will it help me recieve results similar to your own(I realize that this diet was for shaping/creating sharp abs). I ask this because my metobalism is probably much higher than yours must have been. Ill just burn through calories faster when I use P90X, and that would kill my energy during the workout ending up in poorer results. I can’t say I’m all that familar with how proper nutrition actually works with the body, I just follow it, so it creates many questions for me
. Thanks for your help Josh.
You don’t need to follow the exact diet plan because you’re so young, but it is important that you start eating healthy. Stick with fruits, veggies, lean meats, and whole grains and you will lose the weight! Also, I’m not sure if P90X would be a good program for you or not, only because I’ve never had a young girl like yourself go through it. If you’re that interested, you might want to ask your doctor to see if it would be the right program for you. If you don’t do P90X, you can start doing moderate cardio exercise along with some light resistance training. Let me know if you have other questions and what you decide to do!
Since you have a quick metabolism, it will be important that you take in the right amount of calories. The Fat Shredder phase has you take in lower carbs to burn through fat quickly, so it’s important that you follow that as close as you can.
wats up josh….
i was on the fence of getting p90x but after doing some research and reading your story now im 100% sure that im getting it…
ok so im 18 years old im 5′10, and weight 159lbs
i started working out the summer of 2009 and started eating kind of right, i also started buying supplements but i didn’t see much results. i was just wondering if im getting the right supplements, im taking cell-tech to gain weight and nitro-tech for my protein.
im on the navy and im going to be shiping of this august to boot camp and i want to be on the best shape i can be. so you think i can accomplished my goals if im dedicated
I’m glad that I have provided you with the motivation to start P90X and get into the best shape of your life. With hard work and dedication to both the workouts and diet, there is no doubt that you will get into excellent shape and be ready for the Navy. If you purchase P90X from this site, I will automatically be assigned as your coach and be here to help you through your transformation. Let me know if you have any questions and what you decide to do!
Great job using P90X. One of my co-workers has started the program and I really want to start as well. One question I have is, if I start the program and do not change my eating habits, what results do you think I will see? I have never been over weight but I must have the metabolism of a mouse. I’m thin but not defined. I really do eat a lot, but some of what I eat is not really the best. Being a country boy…I love sweet tea.
I will be getting married in October and I want to do this before then. What do you think?
Thanks!
Devin
You will see average results at best if you don’t follow the diet. The diet makes up about 80% of your results. If you’re looking to get into excellent shape, then I recommend following the entire program.
Hey Josh,
I’m having some problems making my daily diet schedule. I looked over the nutrition guide, and it varies in calories with many food items I want to purchase from the store. For example: it shows in the nutrition guide that 1 cup of whole grain cereal is 200 calories. One cup of whole grain cheerioes happens to be half of that in calories. And the store sells non fat plain yogurt in servings of 6oz instead of 8oz which is perfered by the guide. And the list continues from there. Basically, most of the food I try to purchase is off either a bit or quite a bit when compared to the nutrition guide, meaning at the end of the day, im either taking in too little calories or too much, not to mention the change in f/c/p%. So I guess my question is, for example, if I were to eat 2 cups of cheerios instead of 1 so that I can get the full 200 calories that that the guide recommends, could I do so, or should I still follow the guides info. Also, do I need to live by 20/30/50 (f/c/p) if im following fat burner phase 1. Lastly, as stated previously in a comment, I’m 20 years of age, 5′9 weighing at 140lbs, how do I know how many calories I should be taking in and should I be starting at phase 1 on the fat burner or should I be stepping it up to phase 2 b/c of how I burn calories faster during a workout. Creating the perfect diet seems harder to me than it should be I guess, so if you could provide as much info as possible, I’d be grateful. Thanks a lot.
Log everything that you eat into http://www.fitday.com so that you know how many calories and % of fat/carbs/protein that you take in every day. At your height and weight, you should be around 2,300 cals per day. Also, you can make me your coach by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Can I get these results w/ the reg. p90x and there diet guide plus using a protein shake after each work out? Would I get better results if I use a protein shake w/ createen?
I just got there 13 dvd set and am on day 2.

If you commit to the diet and workouts, you can get great results in 90 days. There is no need for creatine unless you’re looking to gain only mass.
Hey Josh!…
I just by coincidence saw your tranSformation on youtube.com and i want to have the same results as you!… I have a big problem!! I am a college student here in Puerto Rico; I bought p90x but i haven’t started it yet because i cant follow the diets. I am overweight my height is 5′10 and i weight about 200 pound. I am really seeking come advice about how to maintain a diet on a collegue basis because the food that they serve in there is not the best you want to eat. Can you please help me.. I want to see awesome results!…
If you go to the “My Diet,” “Q&A,” and “Nutrition” sections on this site, you will find a ton of excellent workout and diet tips.
Man your results were awesome. Ive watched your videos and read your story. And Im amazed at what you have accomplished. You definately have inspired me to get in shape. Two years ago I was woring out every morning for 2 hours. I was on my to be in the best shape of my life, and I had a motorcycle accident that put me out of the game for a year. I recently bought the P90X program in hopes to gain back what I worked so hard for and then some.
Here is my problem. I dont have the funds to follow the nutrition plan like it is laid out. And even if I was able to afford the food I couldnt follow the plan while Im at work. They control what I eat and the food they have for me, is not healthy by any means. I have completed the first month with no problem but during my recovery week I pulled my hamstring and my groin. That derailed me for a couple of days. I tried to start back with the doubles routine and my wife had our baby girl. So rest has flown out the window. I just re-measured myself after 30 days and I didnt notice any results. (However I have noticed that Im getting stronger every week) With that said my motivation has hit rock bottom. Are there some words of encouragement to motivate me to keep pushing play?
The diet is the most important part of the program and you won’t get great results it you don’t follow it. Money is tight for everyone, but if you want to make great changes, there will have to make sacrifices. Make sure you read the posts in the “Motivation” section.
I am pretty skinny but i dont have abs or anything. I was looking to get some mass and atleast a four pack. I would like to gain about 10 pounds of mass is that possible is ninety days
Hey Josh,
I just got done with week five. I have not stuck with the meal plain but I eat good. I started at 170 and I’m at 162. My arms are just now forming but no apps. I have been taken protein after workouts and I’m taken N.O pills. I eat every three hours three meals and apples and grapes in between my meals. Should I take protean befor workouts and after? Do you think I should change anything else and should I start showing more results? Thanks for you help and good job!
You can actually find the answers to your questions in the “Q&A” section on this site.
Hi Josh, just wanted to say that your results are oustanding and incredibly inspiring! I’m only on day 4 but mentally I feel so good that I have finally found something that I think is going to work!
I was a chubby teenager and weighed about 180 pound when I was 15 to 17 and I’m only 5ft 8 tall. Getting ready for a new start at college I lost about 40 pounds just from diet when I was 18. I’m now 27 and the entire time despite looking slim and maintaining a weight of about 150 pounds through periods of diet and cardio at the gym I have never been comfortable because of fatty wobbly parts of my upper body (man boobs and love handles!). I have a 3 year old son and I am ashamed to say I feel too embarrassed to take him swimming! His mum has to take him.
ENOUGH! I am on P90X man and I am totally dedicated to make this work and you really give me the confidence to go for it. I just wanted to ask, because I am in the UK and the supplements are unavailable to ship over here I am taking a high whey protein shake twice a day and multivitamins. I am also sticking to the %’s for4 ‘fat shredder’ to help get rid of my man boobs etc ;o) Do you think that will be ok?
It’s great to hear that you’re determined and ready to get into great shape! What you’re doing with the whey protein, vitamins, and Fat Shredder is great. You can find a ton of excellent tips to help you get started in the “Q&A” section of this site.
Hey Josh ive seen your youtube transormation beore and ivebeen watching it a few times more trying to motivate myself. At the top or your story you asked if i was skinny and needed to build mass. well thats me. im 6′5″ and 205 lbs. i went to GNC and they said this program would be a waste of my time trying to cram 200g’s of protein a day and more. is this true?
Haha well I can tell you that the guys at GNC usually have no idea what they are talking about. It’s actually pretty funny because I will go into there just to ask them questions and see if they know the answers or not, and most times they don’t. Anyways, it’s very possible to gain mass with P90X, as I gained 15lbs of it during Round 2. You will have to make some adjustments to the diet, supplements, and workouts, but you can learn more about that from this post: “Gain Mass With P90X.” Let me know if you have other questions.
Josh
I am a current P90X user, and would very much like you to be my coach. Please let me know what I need to do.
Hey man! Just click on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hey Josh,
I just wanted to know if you put on the 15 lbs of mass using p90x or did you have to go to the gym to add the mass?
Yeah, I was using P90X when I put on that mass. You can learn more about what I did to gain mass on this site.
Hey Josh,
I have one thing to ask before I start down this road, I’m on the road a lot for work)two plus weeks a month) will I be able to do this? I always see people doing a lot of pull ups and that something I wont have the bar to do. Does the program show you other thing to substitute for pull-ups? thanks for an info.
You can always purchase the resistance bands, which you will be able to pack in your bags. The program shows you ways to do the workouts with the bands.
Hey josh
I just watched your video on you-tube and i was amazed with the results you had gotten from the P90X workout. I have a few questions before i go out and buy the program tho. Just like Tj said above me i have a similar problem and I am not always home during the week. So the bands are looking like a good idea. Also with the dieting… how much of a roll does dieting play in the workout? Does the diet allow you to have any leeway at all?
Hey man! Diet plays a huge role in your results, and I tell the people that I coach that it’s actually 80% of the program. You can learn more about the diet by going to the “Q&A” section on this site. Also, you can purchase the program from this site as well, and doing so will automatically make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program. I recommend the “P90X Peak Results Package,” which comes with P90X, the pull-up bar, the Recovery Formula, and 3 resistance bands.
does that come with the DVDs too?
Does what come with the DVD’s? P90X? If so, then yes.
Hi, my name is Nelson, I hope you can help me with this.
If I do the legs, back, shoulders, arms, chest, abs and I skip plyometrics, yoga, kenpo, will I still see the results in 90 days? Please help me with this. Thank you.
It’s important that you follow the program exactly how it’s supposed to be followed, and that includes doing all the cardio workouts.
Hey Josh,
Ive read about your story and seen your transformation. Really incredible and inspiring. Im in the second week of P90x and loving the results so far. Im about 5′7 165 starting out so im kinda already fit but feel like i can be more ripped going into the summer. So i was wondering about SAFE supplements that i can take to help me out. Right now i use protein after workout, is there anything else that could help me or a certain way i can use protein achieve better results?
You can find a list of supplements that I take in the “Q&A” section of this site. Always check with your doctor before beginning any supplements.
Hey Josh,
I’m getting married in July and today is the start of my body transformation. I’m not overweight at all. I’ve always been athletic, I’m just wanting to take things to the next level. I’m happy with the weight I’m at (180-185), I just want to make it a more solid and defined weight. I’m taking tons of protein (wheybolic 60, plus lots of lean meats and milk) and i’m drinking lots of water and vegetable juice (i hate vegetables, hints the juice) I just bought some “jack3d” and a month’s worth of GNC megamen sport vita-packs. I’m hitting the gym monday, wednesday, and friday…and playing 2 hours of basketball tuesday, and more cardio thursday. My plan is to also add in p90x…Any advice or tips or changes???
Also, when it comes to the YOGA part on the P90x, i skip it and instead i do like a 20 to 30 minute jog. Is that ok? Bc. idk how important yoga is to trying to lose fat and gain lean muscles.
There are a ton of benefits of Yoga, and I recommend that you follow the program how it’s set up.
Hey man! You need to stop going to the gym and just do P90X! That’s the program that I followed and if you can commit yourself, then you will get into shape by your wedding. You can purchase it from this site, and doing so will make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program. You need to read through the entire “Q&A” section, which will give you tips on what to do to get started.
Hey Josh,
I really appreciate the advice that you’ve given so far and i dont wanna keep bugging lol, but i have another question. I drink EAS Myoplex Nutrition shake b.c its an already mixed protein shake. I just wanna know is that ok? I do drink the regular whey protein powder mix with 2% milk also. I am fully dedicated to the program and trying to get the best results that i can get.
hey my name is chuck and me and my brother travis would really like to do this and we are really dedicated to it so we would just like to know how we get started.. thank you … and props on the abbs
Hey man! You can actually purchase P90X from this site, and doing so will make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program. You might want to consider getting the “Peak Results Package,” which comes with P90X, resistance bands, the P90X Chin-Up Bar, and a months’ supply of Recovery Formula.
That should be fine. However, you need to stay away from 2% milk. I drink fat free milk, which is what I recommend for you as well.
what up man…i played baseball my hole life and have been in pretty good shape my hole life i also played community college baseball for a year and i worked out quite a bit..but i could never get that legitimate six pack either im 5′10″ 175 lbs. and not over weight by any means but still have some fat on my stomach..im just wondering how long it will take before i start seeing results..i will admit the nutrition plan is the hardest part, i love junk food and just can’t leave them alone but im tryin
You have to be patient man! Also, the most important part of the program is the diet, and you need to follow it strictly if you want great results! You can learn more about it in the “Q&A” section.
The first thing I recommend all new people to do is get the Club Membership, which gives you access to trainer tips, healthy recipes, and creates custom meal plans for you. There are many other benefits as well, and you can learn more by clicking on this link: http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/get-fit/club-membership/. Being a Club Member helped me tremendously when I first started the program!
Hey Josh,
My names Sophie and I’m 16 years old from the United Kingdom.
My boyfriend is called Aaron and he’s 17. He’s repeatidly been trying to ‘get ripped’ and has often tried getting me involved with his work out regimes.
He pays for the gym monthly and has only gone once or twice, even though his brother works there.
He has absoutely no self-confidence, and he is really down on himself. To me he’s perfect but he really doesn’t like his body.
Even though he’s only 17 years old, his body shape was very much like yours before you started the P90X, so I showed him what his body could look like after the results.
I always support him in anything he tries to do, and even though I’m only a size 8, I went running with him and worked out with him when he wanted to do so.
After a couple of times running, he usually got back into his routine of fatty foods. I said that P90X might be for him as it’s and everyday workout, and your more determined to do it because its got a set diet and you know what to do.
I’ve mentioned the program to him, but as we’re both so young, it’s very expensive. I was just wondering if theres anything that will give similar results for a bit cheaper?
Or if theres anything specifically that I need to buy for him to help his body shape change.
I’d also like to congratulate you on your amazing progress, You’ve done brilliantly, Well done.
Sophie,
Hey Sophie! Let me ask you something, how much is he spending for the gym membership per year? More than likely he’s going to be saving money with P90X! I haven’t been to the gym in over a year and have gotten CRAZY results! If he’s ready to change his life, then I highly recommend finding a way to get it!
Hey Josh,
I just wanted to say that it’s great to see someone so successful at this program willing to help others. I have always had weight issues growing up. When I turned 14, I started weight lifting and playing sports. I was in decent shape but still over weight. As the years went by as an adult I had gone to the gym on and off to try to lose weight and get to the body fat I should be at. At one point in my life I truely gave up and became the heaviest I have ever been(248lbs) I’m only 5′6″ so I know that’s huge even though I’m a weight lifter. I went through a bad break up with my fiancé and turned all my bad feelings and anger into working out; swimming, running, and cardio at the gym with a little bit of strength training. I also gave up all fast food/ junk food, soda, sat fats, etc… And I lost about 52 lbs. I was half way to my goal when I just hit a wall and got burnt out. I was tired and sick. I went back to my old ways of eating and no exercise and I’m dissapointed to say that I not only gained back the 52 lbs but gained an additional 10 lbs. I’m disgusted with my bad habits and I just bought p90x. I started the lean program yesterday and I had a hard time finishing it. I am truely out of shape. I’m also not sure how to make a proper menu for the diet. I was hoping you could give me some good advice. I have been in the fitness world for many years and I actually want to one day become a personal trainer and help others like you because I know I’m not the only one who is ready for a life change. Thank you- Jen D.
It’s 19.99 a month, So he would be saving in the long run with the P90X. I will talk to him and let you know
Hey Josh, I am not sure I’m getting the results I want. I follow the diet plan pretty strickly but since I am also doing a bit of MMA (Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) I tend to eat way more carbs and stuff than I think I’m supposed to. I am trying to gain weight and muscle and so far I’ve gained about 7 pounds within about 4 weeks, is that slow? Can I gain faster? Also I am increasing on my lifts, pull-ups, and pushups significantly, however I don’t feel like I am SEEING results. What should I do? I feel like if I follow the diet plan exactly I will be starving myself and end up loosing weight and muscle seeing that I do MMA almost everynight. I’m 5′9 and at least 150 lbs. I’m really fit but I just don’t feel like my body show’s it. Please help with diet, advice, anything. I am way determined and willing to do ANYTHING! As long as it really works. Thank you so much for your time.
Hey Jen! The great thing about P90X is that you can modify it however you want. If you struggle, pace yourself, do the modifed versions, and just do what you can do! If you can only make it through half the workout, then so-be-it, just as long as you know you pushed yourself and did your best. This is not a spint, but a marathon, and it might take you 3-4 rounds to reach your goals, but if you commit yourself and do little positive things every day, you will reach your goals! A book that I recommend that you get is “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz, which is the book that has literally changed my life. It will help you have the proper mindset in order to succeed with this program. You have to understand that 90% of having success with any fitness program has to do with your ability to stay committed and motivated.
With the diet, it’s very important that you follow the Nutrition Guide. You need to be taking in around 1500-1800 cals, and start off with the Fat Shredder Phase, which is a fat/carbs/protein % of 20/30/50. You can keep track of that by logging what you eat into http://www.fitday.com. Also, make sure you go through the “Q&A” section, which is going to help you get started with everything.
Have you made me your coach yet? If not, click on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Stick with it Jen! BRING IT!
Josh
Hey josh congrats on your results first of all, but i have a few questions. last year i whent through 50 days of p90x but had to stop when i tore my mcl in baseball but when i was doing it i was shredding weight loss, but i started the workouts again a week ago and havent lost a single pound and ive been eating way under the calorie range i should eat in, and ideas on why this is?
You need to take in the right amount of calories or your body can enter into starvation mode, which will make it hard for you to lose weight.
7 lbs in the first 4 weeks is actually very good. You have to remember that it’s much harder to put on weight than it is lose weight. You need to make sure that you take in a lot of cals and carbs if your goal is to strictly gain mass, and at your height and weight, I would take in about 3,000 cals per day. You can learn about more things to do to gain mass in the “Workouts” section of this site. There are two posts on there about gaining mass. Also, am I your coach? If not, click on the link to make me your coach: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hey man, I think you are a great inspiration to everyone doing this program. Im actually waiting to get my P90X stuff in the mail. Should be here in a couple of days! Can’t wait to start!
Awesome man! Get ready to BRING IT! Am I your coach? If not, click on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
hey josh, i’m about 5′6 and 140 pounds. i’m doing p90x and about 2 weeks into it. i’m pretty defined but am still kinda “skinny”. would you recommend doing a diet similar to the one your on now, or stick to something similar like the fat shredder? also, would you reccomend taking something like no xplode?
Hey man! If your goal is to gain mass, then you need to make adjustments to the diet and workouts slightly. Go to the “Workouts” section and read the two posts about gaining mass with P90X. Also, I take Jack3d pre-workout, which is like NOX, but better.
Hey Josh,
I wanting to know if you could give me some sort of an estimate about how many cals i should be taken in. Im 5′6 and now 161lbs..im finishing up my 3rd wk of P90x and i lost 4lbs already. And also what was your measurements before and after you started P90x?
ok i just decided if i want to get the best results that i can get, then im going to need to make you my coach bc im 100% dedicated to this program. Just tell me what i need to do to make it happen.
Awesome!! thanks man
Hey Josh, i just want to start off by saying wow. Your in amazing shape and something i hope i can achieve with a lot of hard work.
I just ordered P90X and i cant wait. Im a work out junkie and im looking forward to this challenge. i just had some quick questions tho.
About a year ago i dropped close to 80 pounds and im now at 200. But even tho i work out alot my body just doesnt seem to want to lose anymore then i already have, and im also having a tough time toning out my body. Do you think that this program will show me some real results?
And i was wondering about other things such as protein and all those other shakes,
Is there any that i really should be taking? or am i ok with not taking any?
If you have any suggestions please feel free to help me out. Thanks!
Great man! Just click on the link to make me your coach: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hey man! At your height and weight, you should be taking in around 2,000-2,200 cals per day. Also, I lost 25lbs and 10% body fat from day 1 to day 90.
Hey man! Did you order the program from this site?
If you follow the program strictly, which includes the diet, you’re going to see results! Also, you can find a list of supplements that I take in the “Q&A” section of this site.
Ok so I’m a guy 17 5″8 130 pounds and finishing my first week of p90x and really starting to see results but I was wondering wat should I eat to gain mass I would like to gain at least 20 pounds of lean muscle by summer time
Do you want to lose any more body fat? If so, then continue to follow the Nutrition Guide until you do so. When you reach your target body fat %, then you can adjust your diet to gain mass.
Hey dude,
i really liked your transformation, im 16 turning 17 in august, im five foot ten and a half and weigh about 150. im pretty skinny exept i have about a centimeter of fat near my belly button and about and inch of fat on my love handles. it looks sortof unproportioned im on day 6 of P90X and following the nutrition guide and i was wondering when i should start seeing results.
Thanks,
Will
It might take the entire 90 days to reach your goals, but you should start seeing results in the first few weeks. However, they may not be drastic results. You will just have to be patient!
hey, im 16 years old 6′ 1′ and 162 pounds. ive been wieght lifting for about half a year now, ive gained about 15 pounds since then and ive been sticking to my own nutrition diet. well… i bought the P90X and i seem to be having alot of trouble breaking away from my own diet use the P90X diet.
any suggestions?
Hey josh my name is Dustin im new to p90x, im on week 2 and im doing the lean program. Im 20 yr old 5′8″ and weigh 150 pounds, i’v been in prety good shape sinch high school football. i work construction for a living so i stay in decent shape but like you i have never reached that cut look, so far tha diet is easy to follow but im haveing a hard time with tha yoga expecialy with my right knee (football injury), any ways im wondering if i should continue with the lean program or maybee go with the classic. im trying to get more toned and cut do you have any pointers?
You’re just going to have to commit to the Nutrition Guide! It’s going to be tough, you you need to do it. You can find a ton of helpful information on the diet in the “Q&A” section.
Hey man! I actually recommend the Classic version for all men because of the balance of cardio and resistance workouts. Also, have you made me your coach yet? You can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
hey whats up im 13 and im not over wight but im not skinny either would like to be toned like a hollister model something like that i have been told to take this para slim force and betaline alinine i was wondering if u could help me out and should i take those drugs
Hey Josh,
I have looked at your results, and man i have to say, wow thats impressive. I am 17 years old and weigh 153 pounds. My ultimate goal is to get bigger, and get toned at the same time. Which i realize that thats what tony does the whole time, is both 12-15 reps and he says you can do 8-10 reps. But, i am already pretty athletic and am in phase 3 of the nutrition plan. I have only been doing this for 4 days now and its amazing. I just really wanna know a couple of things. Do you ever lift weight with your chest in p90x? and if not those push ups that you do. aRe those gonna make you stronger and toned or give you mass and size? or both? And what about your traps. It seemed like you have definitely worked those out. Did you get that from p90x? or yourself? I really want big defined traps. Keep in mind i dont wanna get to big, your size is probably just right. Please give as much feedback as you can. Oh yeah, I notice that you started seeing big results right around the 30 day to 40 day mark…. If i am already as atheletic as i am and am following the proper diet with the strict workouts, will i be able to expect the same changes to any extent? Thank you, and i appreciate this very much
Hey Josh,
I am 14 and my health and fitness teacher gave me the p90x and suggested i use it, i play soccer for my highschool team but i am completely disgusted by my body. i am 162 lbs and 21% body fat.
I think i have made u my coach but im not completely sure? I cannot start the p90x yet because the dvd’s are not cooperating with my dvd player, ps2, or computer. so im trying to get that worked out, i want to start asap.
I got motivated when i saw your results on youtube, and i hope after 90 days i will get ripped and hopefully can maintain the diet.
Hey josh my name is Orry I bought P90x on ebay and it was supposed to come as a complete set, but didn’t come with the fitness guide or nutrition plan. Is there anywhere i can buy the fitness guide and nutrition plan?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to purchase either because you did not order from Beachbody or a coach.
You need to talk to your doctor about beginning any supplement at your age.
Hey man. You are going to have to go through this site, which has a ton of information on the questions that you posted. Just be patient, follow the program, and you will get results!
I need some help. I cant do anything on tuesdays and my real rest day is Thursday. Could i just do this
Fri. chest & back & abs
Sat. plyo
Sun. shoulders & arms & abs
Mon. yoga
Tues. rest
Wed. Legs & Back & abs
Thurs. Kenpo
or any other variation like that, this is how i work around my schedule
help please
The most important thing is that you complete all the workouts during the week, and your schedule looks fine. Also, have you made me your coach yet? You can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Josh,
i have a question. Do you perform any lifts for your trapezius muscles and lifts for chest besides pushups in p90x?
No, I just do the P90X exercises.
Josh,
in your results it looks like you definitely worked your traps. Does p90x supply lifts for your traps that give them the burn and workout or no?
Yeah, it has some exercises that work the traps.
alright cool thank you. My diet is really good i do good at it except for one thing i dont really count my calories cause i dont know how to do it the best way but i know i am eating right like oatmeal and protein shake in the morning snack i have a apple or banana then lunch wheat bread with tuna and mustard with some veggies or fruit then protein shake with creatin then snack again then either fish or chicken breast at night with veggies then protein shake before bed? does that sound good? also question about recovery week do i need to do it or can i modify it a little and up it a little i hate resting that week? what should i do? also i dont know about yoga i do it anyway but hopefully it helps i heard it does? thank you for responding to me your great!!!!
You can keep track of everything by logging it into http://www.fitday.com. Also, you need to follow the Recovery Week, and do Yoga as well.
Hey Josh,i have tried p90x 4 times and simply couldnt stick to the diet. I saw results and all but i could never get past the first phase because i was also tired do to the low carb diet. I am 15 years old and was just wondering what you did fight those snack and carb cravings that i had. I am hoping to start over on monday and plan on finishing all 90 days before summer. By the way your results are awesome. thanks
Everyone gets those cravings man, and you just have to be strong enough to resist them. Commit yourself!
Another question. Do i have to follow the Nutrition plan or can i do my own diet?
You need to follow the Nutrition Guide.

Whatsup josh I am 19 but I’m not fat I’m just gettin a little chubby I’m thinkin about doin p90x this summer and would like to know if I need any suppliments and if so what also when u follow the diet plan can u still eat some sweets and when should I start seein any results
hey josh, i have another question. my school offers a strength training class and it is a required. and well i was wondering if its okay to do both the class and p90x in the same day. because i am about half way through phase one and dont want to have to stop.
There isn’t really a problem with it, just as long as you aren’t working the same muscle group with each workout. If so, then you need to make sure you’re doing a cardio on those days you have your lifting class.
You can find the answers to your questions in the “Q&A” section of this site.
hello again, i have a food question, would goolash(with ground beef) be bad for you?
Hey josh, i was wondering about the diet. I live with only my mom and she has a steady job but not one to buy all those fancy diet foods. So instead, the only things i CAN have for my diet is bananas, grapes, apples, oranges, salad, steak, green beans, protein shake, chicken(skinless), and carrots. And so i was wondering if you can layout a diet plan for me using the fruits vegetable, and meats i have listed? And another thing, im about 16 pounds overweight, so how longer in the program you think ill be able to see a 6 pack?
And by the way, love the results on youtube man
Sorry, I don’t put together meal plans for individuals. If you want custom meal plans, you need to get the Club Membership.
Haha I have no idea what that is man!
HI JOSH.
I´VE JUST COMPLETE THE ENTIRE P90X PROGRAM (1RST ROUND). AND I ´VE GOT AMAZING RESULTS, I BEGAN WITH 16OLBS AND I FINISHESD WITH 145 POUNDS, I´M NOT TOTALLY RIPPED (I CAN SEE MY 4 PACK ABS)YET THE FOOD STUFF IS GREAT, DON´T HAVE PROBLEM AT ALL WITH THAT. BUT I HAVE I DOUBT. IF YOU WERE ME, WOULD YOU GO FOR A SECOND ROUND OF P90X OR SWITCH TO ANOTHER PROGRAM OF BEACH BODY LIKE INSANITY.
ha alright, its pretty much just noodles with tomato sauce and beef, and what about meatloaf?
Meatloaf isn’t the greatest for you either.
Awesome man! Congrats on your results! OK, since you have a little bit of body fat still left to lose, then you could do Insanity, which is a very high intensity that will help you reach your goals. Also, have you considered becoming a coach like I am? It’s a tremendous opportunity! I’m actually doing this full-time and the current Top Coach in the nation, so I know what it takes to be successful with this. Send me and email at pioneerballplayer28@yahoo.com if you’re interested.
LAst question. i dont have the things for the nutrition meals or the money. Could i like replace them? like what could i put in place of protein bars and shakes?
You need to make sure you’re following the right diet and take in the proper supplements.
well what if i cant?
Hi josh i just want to get ripped tel me how and what to do i will do it
P90X man! If you’re from the US or Canada, you can purchase it from this site.
What if you can’t what?
Hay josh thanks for the comment. what % dos e you body have to be to get ripped and were you on a strict diet and what did you eat
I followed the Nutrition Guide that came with P90X. You can find sample diets of mine and other diet tips in the “Nutrition” section of this site. Also, currently I’m at around 6% body fat.
Did yOu ever go to the gym and what did you do ( I live in the UK)
I followed P90X strictly for the first round.
Hey Josh. First of all, great job on the results! I’m 17 years old, and played football up until my junior year of high school, which is the grade I’m in now. I’m not necessarily out of shape, and I’m not overweight by any means. However, I am really interested in getting bulked up and having that “legitimate six-pack.” I was wondering if you think I should just work out regularly or try this P90X? I am extraordinarily interested in the P90X but wanted to know if I’m possibly too young to go for it and meet the obligations.
Try P90X man! I wish I would have known about the program back in high school. I’ve seen 15 y/o’s go through the program and get excellent results, so you could as well. Make sure you check with your doctor first, of course.
thanks josh for your help
Hey Josh, I was wondering about the diet. Like I come from a family not really poor but not really rich, so the only thing i can afford is oranges, apples, grapes, bananas, carrots, salad, tomatoes, and for meats i usually have steak, chop steak, hamburger patties, and spaghetti. Can you please help me bunch all that together to have a diet? And also, What if I want to bulk Up a little bit more, but wanna get it defined also, Which of the type 3 should i do? And One more thing, Im 18 pounds overweight from getting to 6 percent body fat, Do you think i can lose those 18 pounds And get the amazing 6 pack you got? Thanks for the inspiration.
ps: Can you be my coach and You are one murph as guy
Unfortunately, I don’t create custom meal plans for individuals. However, you can find a ton of excellent diet tips and how to follow the diet in the “Q&A” section of this site. Also, I recommend the Classic version. Also, just click on the link to make me your coach: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Ahh Man That sucks But Ill try the Q&A man. Anyways, The problem about making you my coach is that i already have one. So Where Do i go from there?
Josh,
Amazing results btw. a friend said they use you as a coach. I’ve been doing p90x for 2months and i’m not losing fat. not sure if i eat enough for a 6′ 210lb young man.
daily: ten egg whites for breakfast, snach (bar & shake), level 3 shake after workout, snack, chicken & spinach for dinner.
any suggestions??
Kona, you can make a coach switch, and here is how to do so..
If you would like to make a coach switch, you simply have to send a one line email to coachrelations@teambeachbody.com telling them that you want JOSH SPENCER at pioneerballplayer28@yahoo.com to be your coach. Make sure to include your FULL NAME and email address and to copy me on the email so I can follow up.
Bryan, what you need to do is log what you’re eating into http://www.fitday.com and send me the results. I’m looking for total cals and % of fat/carbs/protein. It sounds to me like your body is in starvation mode, which doesn’t allow you to burn any fat. Also, you can make me your coach by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hi, Josh.
I’m currently on week 3 of p90x, and it’s been really tough on my schedule. I’m on a health diet, but can’t afford to follow the p90x nutrition plan exactly. I have missed a couple days here and there. usually toward the end of the week (YOGA, Kenpo X). Is this going to hurt me? I know it may take a little longer than normal, but I’m okay with that.
Also, I’m only using creatine pre workout and protein post-workout. Is that enough? I certainly want results, and I’m going to stick with this regardless after 90 days. What are your thoughts?
The diet is the most important part of the program, and if you don’t follow it strictly, you won’t get the results you want. You can find a ton of excellent tips to help you with the diet in the “Q&A” section of this site. You can also find a list of supplements that I use and recommend in the “Q&A” section as well.
Hey Josh I have just recently seen pictures of you on youtube and read your information on this website and it has deeply influenced me to want to start this program at last. My only concerns are that I am a senior in High School and I depend on school lunches does this mean that I will need to start bringing healthier foods throughout the day for this program to completely work, and another huge concern of mine was that I saw that the program does make you ripped and I believe it completely but does it help you gain muscle mass as well so that you dont look skinny but tone. Is the program enough to completely replace working out at a gym? Thank you for you time and patience to read this. Brandon
Yeah man, you will need to start packing your lunches if you want to stay committed to the diet. Also, I haven’t been to the gym in about 2 years, and have only been following Beachbody programs. Currently, I’m mixing together P90X, P90X Plus, One on One, and some Insanity.
Josh,
I’m 50. I was told I should do Power 90 Bootcamp before attempting P90X. I’m 6″ 156 (I have a small frame) but still have a little belly. I’m in the gym 4-5 days a week. 30 on the tread and 30 with weights, nothing extremely heavy, but I’m in there; sometimes I stay longer. I don’t eat sweets and eat multiple times a day, but not a lot. What is the difference between Power 90 and P90X and should I do Power 90 first? If so why; if not why?
Thanks!
Jonny, my father is 49 and is going through P90X. He’s 5′9″ and started at 189lbs. He’s 70 days into it and has lost 18lbs! If you work out like you say you do, then I think you’re ready for P90X. If you have to, do the modified versions at first if the regular versions are too tough. If you order from this site, I will become your coach and be here to help you through the program. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey man Im 20 years old and a College baseball player (pitcher). I need to have great endurance and stamina. But would also love to be ripped. I just recently purchased P90X. you think its right for me? and I have that little belly on me that I can not ride of and I have always been told its gentics but I want abs haha so what do you think?
Thanks
Nate
Yeah man, this is an excellent program for you. I was a college baseball player as well, and wish I knew about the program back when I played. I’m literally in the best shape of my life now, thanks to P90X! Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
But do you think I can get those abs? and what exactly will a coach do for me?
hey man Im 50 years and stopped lifting weights about a year ago but i want bak into it. Im 5′10 195 pounds and just recently purchased P90X. What program I should start at?
Hey Josh its David, i was wondering if i could switch supplements, instead of the p90x recovery formula, go with Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60. The guy at the GNC store said it was a protien powder that was kinda like the one p90x has. I just wanted to know it it was ok to take this, i just did not want any bad side effects from this.
Thanks
David, whey protein and the Recovery Formula are two very different supplements, but both very important for muscle recovery. I actually recommend taking both: the RF right after the workout and the whey about an hour later. If the guy was telling you that the GNC whey is just like the RF, then he has no idea what he’s talking about.
Mark, I would follow the Classic version. My father is 49 and has been going through the Classic version for 11 weeks now, and has lost almost 20lbs! Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
As your coach I’ll be here to help you through the program and answer any questions you might have. Having a coach is important for accountability and someone to support and motivate you while going through the program.
hi josh!!
after i finished the 90days program, what will I do next? will i start the 90days program again?? beginning from fat shredder? help me please. thank you! and when do i add weights? can i carry 5pounds all throughout the program? thank you very much!!
i need a beach body badly hahaha.
Hey Mark! There are a number of options for you once you finish your first round: (1) You can go through another round of P90X, (2) Purchase another program like P90X Plus. Insanity, and Insanity and do those, or (3) Combine some of the new programs with P90X. Also, what do you mean by “carry 5 pounds” throughout the program?
Hey man. first congrats on changing your life with this program. I am starting the P90X myself and I can say that i’am already feeling and seeing some results in just 3 weeks! I have watched your video on youtube and I noticed that you had the same arch in your lower back as I do. I have always wondered why i have it and my friend said he notice something that could cause it. He said when I was working out with him that he can see the muscle in my upper back but never could he see any muscle movement in m lower. what do you think? Also when I do the Ab Ripper X “which is insane” I can feel my lower back being worked. I know its a core workout but does the include my lower back? How did you strengthen your lower back and now stand with better posture? Thanks man and by the way your video was what convinced me to to get the P90X….thanks again man
thank you josh! if i will go through another round of p90x, will i get a great results?.. what i mean is that, for example, if i do a weight exercise like the lawnmowers, biceps curls and etc. can i carry 5pounds each hand all throughout the program? when will i change the weight of my dumbbells? thank you verryy much joossh!
Yeah, you should continue to see results by going through another round of P90X, but you might have to make some adjustments to your diet. Also, 5lbs is not much weight. You need to pick a weight that you can get either 8-10 or 12-15 reps.
Ryan, I’m not sure what you’re talking about with my lower back. I have a well developed lower back from doing P90X. Anyways, Ab Ripper X works the entire core, including the lower back, so you’re going to feel it in many places. Yoga will help you with better posture!
Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
Hey josh, about my question with my lower back problem, i wasn’t saying you dont have a developed lower back now. Its clear that you have developed all parts since you started. I was referring to your day one pictures its not that you had a problem im not saying that, I was just curious is to now that arch is gone and you stand with a straight back now. I have the arch in my lower back. I was just wondering if you had done extra or just followed the P90X program and that did it.
Hey Josh, I just requested a coach switch. I’m in my 5th week of P90x and hopefully you could guide me in any future questions that I might have to help me reach my maximum potential. Thanks a lot man I appreciate it!
Hey Josh!!
I Just recently bought p90x and I’m past my third day now, I just have a few questions
I passed the fitness test, but I can’t do some of the exercises so far. I thinks its like 3 or 4 so far That i can’t do, I usually march in place or lift depending if its cardio or weights. Is this a good strategy or should I just try and keep trying until I can at least do one? Also I can’t do Ab ripper X at all and I’m thinking of instead of ab ripper x if I can do ab ripper 100 or 200, what do you think? Thanks for the help!
Hey Josh!! Sorry I have another question. I’m eating around 1600 calories a day. mostly protein, almost no carbs at all, do you think I should increase my calorie intake or keep it at that level?
1,600 is very low. You need to be around 2,200.
You want to always attempt to do each exercise, but if you just physically can’t then march in place. Remember, there are modified versions as well, which you need to try to do. Also, with Ab Ripper X, just pause it as many times as you have to, but make sure that you complete all the reps. You should be seeing improvement in all areas each week.
Lee, let me know when you have any questions man!
I never really noticed that I had an arch. My guess is that it went away because of Yoga and pull-ups!
alright thanks man, im starting week 3 now me and my girl friend are working out together. were doing the classic version, my goal is to drop weight and get defined then work at building mass maybe in the last phase or if need be round 2. she really just wants to tone up her body, how should she go about each workout…i added you as my coach thanks man
Hello Josh
I recently got p90x. And needed help starting off. I pass the physical test, and did about a week of the work out. Survived. But then I kinda side tracked and began laying it off. I need some motivation
I usually overthink to much
I’m 17. Currently in HS And on the school swim team. I’m not a fat person. But I have enough tht I feel insequre about it. I desperatly need to loose it And gain extra muscle,so tht I can look better in a speedo and have more confidence and strength.
Btw is the nutrition plan a little to hard for a teen?
Can u please help me start off?
@Michael. Nutrition is everything man, whether you’re a teen or not. If you want great results and to look good, then you need to make sure you follow the Nutrition Guide. You can modify the type of foods you’re eating, but still stick with the basic principles. Also, you need to read through the entire “Q&A” section of this site to help you get started.
@Ryan. You should have your g/f get ahold of my fiancé Melinda, who is also a coach. She’s lost 35lbs with the program. Her email is joshgirl8@yahoo.com and her website is http://www.iwanttogettoned.com.
hi Josh!
this makes me depressed, is this normal? my abdominal muscles are not balance, on the side part near my ribs i have more muscles on the right side than my left side, in the middle upper part i have more muscles on the left side than my right side.. is this normal??
thank you so much josh!
and josh, i am only 130pounds and i am eating 1500 – 1800 calories a day, i am following the nutrition program phase 1 of the p90x nutrition guide. am i doing the right thing? thank you!!!
and i am not drinking any supplements..
sorry for the cut messages.
@Mark. Sometimes the muscles develop differently on each side, and really there’s nothing you can do about it. My left side actually developed much faster than my right, but has gradually evened out. No reason to be depressed about it.
@Mark. You need to be taking in more calories man. That’s way too low with you being just 130lbs.
Hey Josh,
Im in the process of ordering p90x and im wondering if the nutritional guide is easy to comprehend because i have a hard time measuring calories and grams and such. I would really want this to work. Since im 5 ‘6 and only weigh about 138..i wanted to make sure that this program is right for me.
P.S.- just curious, i wanted to gain muscle but i noticed it said fat shredder for the first part, wouldn’t i get skinnier?
Hey Josh,
I noticed that you take a lot of supplements to compliment your nutrional guide that you follow. i just wanted to know how is it that you can fit all of those supplements into each of yours days? Do you eat frequent but small meals(2 to 3 hours)and take the supplements in between?
@Juan. I make sure I include all of my supplements in my diet and aim for around 2,300 cals per day. Yeah, I try to eat 5 meals per day.
@Juan. The diet is the toughest part of the program to stick to, but also the most important. If you’re looking to gain mass, you need to check out the two posts I have in the “Workouts” section about gaining mass with P90X. Also, you can purchase P90X from this site, and doing so will make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program.
Hi Josh, I’m in my first week of P90X. I actually started the first couple of days with some of the cardio type workouts just to get myself back into the idea of working out, moving around and feeling a sweat. Then I pressed on to the chest and back video and the next day my arms were killing me. I actually couldn’t bend them all the way. I powered through and kept doing the videos but now three days removed from the first chest and back video, I still don’t have full movement in my arms. (tons of tightness in my triceps) Any suggestions to relieve this type of thing or anything I can do to avoid it in the future? Did you have any similar problems when you first started? Thanks
@Jason. Haha welcome to the X my friend! The soreness that you’re experiencing is actually very common, and unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do about it! Are you using the Results and Recovery Formula? If not, you really need to start. Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringrepID=11685
Hi josh! I am following the nutrition program but is it okay if i don;t eat at the right time? often times i miss eating breakfast and i just eat all the required food during lunch time and dinner time and snack time. is it ok?
And also, I worked out every morning after i woke up. I only drink my veggie juice when i woke up then work out after how many minutes. Is that ok?
thanks josh!
@Mark. Breakfast is actually the most important part of the day because it kick starts your metabolism and the fat burning process. Plus, it gives you energy to get your day started. Make sure you eat breakfast from now on! If you struggle with the time for breakfast, then look into Shakeology, which I use as a meal replacement each day. Also, that sounds fine with the veggie juice, just as long as you don’t feel nauseated. It’s good to let things digest before working out.
Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685
thanks coach! i already added you as my coach!
Coach, what should i so that my right Serratus Anterior will catch up with my left, the left is bigger than my right. is there an isolate exercise for my right Serratus Anterior only? thank you coach!
I am doing my p90x! i am on my 2nd week now, wohoooo! hahaha.
I can’t buy a shakeology, i don’t have a credit card. i don’t drink any supplements. i only eat the foods on the nutrition guide. thank you coach!
@Mark. Sometimes the muscles develop differently on one side of the body, and there isn’t much you can do about it! When I first started the program, my left bicep was larger than my right, but now they have evened out.
Hi coach!
is there any substitute for the whey protein and the shakeology?
i am still trying to earn money to buy one.
Sup Josh!
First off I want to say congrats on changing your life and finding a healthy way to take more care of yourself. I am thinking about starting the p90x program and I wanted to know would it make me more lean or bigger? I ask you this because like you I am an athlete and I also have great genetic in my family when it comes to my fathers side. Right now I weigh about 212lb and my main goal is to be more defined and ripped. Is it worth it?
@Alphonso. Thanks man! P90X is a program geared more towards getting ripped than it is gaining mass, so you should have no problem! If you purchase from this site, I will become your coach and be here to help you through the program. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@Mark. Shakeology is a unique product and there isn’t anything like it out there on the market. Whey protein you can get anywhere, but make sure you get a good one.
Hi coach!
so this is what i am going to do, after i finished my 1st round of p90x, i will do round 2 or another 90days and i will drink whey protein every after mwf exercises. is that okay coach?
and the whey protein is the optimum nutrition gold standard.. is that brand goood? thank you coach!
