I think that the most common question I get from people is “Can I gain mass with P90X?” We all know that P90X helps people lose weight, which is proven by the before and after pictures you see everywhere, but is it a program that you can use to gain mass? There are many skinny people looking to gain mass, but are worried that P90X might be too intense for them to put on any muscle and gain weight. Is this a legitimate concern? I’m going to answer these questions and share with you all some things that you can do to gain mass with P90X.

P90X alone is not a mass building program, but you can make a few adjustments to make it one. The diet starts out with low carbohydrates so people can burn through the fat fairly quickly. Low carbs are not good for someone to gain mass, so instead of following the Fat Shredder diet, I recommend starting out with the Endurance Maximizer diet, while also following the Level 3 plan. The Endurance Maximizer diet involves a lot of carbs and protein, and carbs help sustain your energy levels, preventing your body from burning muscle throughout the day, while protein helps repair and rebuild the muscle. Level 3 involves taking in over 3,000 calories per day, which is important because in order to gain mass, you have to take in more calories than you burn throughout the day. Remember, you don’t just burn calories with your workout, but with everything that you do throughout the day.

The next important important thing that you have to realize is that burning a lot of calories with the workouts is not beneficial when trying to gain mass. Remember, you have to take in more calories than you burn, so doing a very intense workout is just going to make it harder for you to reach that goal. This is why you need to limit the cardio that you do. Instead of doing P90X Plyometrics, replace it with some heavy lifting at the gym. However, make sure you develop a schedule that doesn’t interfere with the two resistance days surrounding Plyos. Remember, you want to give each muscle group 48 hours rest before working again, so move the P90X workouts around so that you can do so. One cardio per week should be plenty. Also, make sure you start tracking your calories so you know how many you’re taking in during the day, and a good website I highly recommend to do so with is www.myfitnesspal.com.

Next, it’s important that you focus on 8-10 reps, not 12-15. This means that for every exercise, with the exception of a few, which I will get to next, that 10th rep needs to be near impossible to get. Make sure you use proper form every time. Never sacrifice form to get in one more rep. The only exercises that you still need to do as many reps as possible with are push-ups and pull-ups. If you want to make push-ups and pull-ups more challenging, purchase a weighted vest, which will also help you with putting on mass. I haven’t purchased one yet, but plan on doing so soon. Using heavier weights doing lower reps with the P90X exercises can help you put on some mass.

Now on to supplements. Some mass gaining supplements that I have used in the past that have worked for me are creatine monohydrate and whey protein. When I was taking creatine monohydrate powder, I started off with a loading phase of 10g per day for a week and then dropped down to 5g per day thereafter. Take 2.5g pre and post workout, mixed with natural non-acidic fruit juice. The natural sugar found in fruit juice helps transport the creatine to the muscle cells. It’s important to get non-acidic fruit juice because acidic would break down the creatine into creatinine. Next, whey protein is a crucial supplement when trying to gain mass. Whey protein is the purest form of protein, and helps repair and rebuild muscle. Take it 2-3 times per day, the most important being in the morning and after your workout. Last, if you have a crazy fast metabolism and just can’t gain mass, you might want to look into a weight gainer. Most people just can’t physically eat enough in order to gain mass, and weight gainers have a ton of calories and carbs in them, helping you reach that caloric goal.

So those are my tips for gaining mass with P90X. Like I said, it’s possible, but you will have to make a few adjustments. P90X is a great program because of the muscle confusion and the excellent diet plan, and a program that I highly recommend whether you’re looking to lose weight or gain mass.

For the past few weeks, I have been listening to an audio called “The Art of Exceptional Living” by Jim Rohn, and there was a segment yesterday about setting goals for yourself. Personally, I feel that setting goals and writing them down are crucial for you success, and it’s something that I have stressed to both my coaches and customers. How do you know what to work towards if you don’t have a set goal? Short answer, you don’t. For those of you who are starting P90X or have just become a coach on Team Next Level and haven’t written down your goals yet, I can assure you that you will start doing so once you finish reading this post.

So, why is it important to set goals for yourself? Like I mentioned above, when you have something to work towards, your mind will pave the way to success. What I mean by that is that once you have a set goal, your mind will develop a plan for you to reach that goal. I’m not saying that once you set a goal you automatically go into robot mode and do everything you need to in order to reach the goal, but once you can visualize success, you will start putting together a plan of action to achieve that goal. Once you figure out what that goal is, make sure you write it down and put it somewhere you will be able to see it every day. Why? It’s simple, really. How easy is it to forget something that you have just thought about and not written down? Very easy. When your goal is right smack in front of you every day, you can’t ignore it, and if you do, you better believe it will haunt you while you sleep!

There are different types of goals. You have short-term, medium-term (I just made that up, but it fits!), and long-term. First, let’s talk about short-term goals. What are short-term goals? These are goals that you plan on accomplishing in the short term. Get it? This can be a day or even a week. Something I do every day to make sure I accomplish my short-term goals is create a To-Do-List. With a To-Do-List, I am constantly reminded about what I set out to accomplish for the day. Plus, by writing it down I can’t forget about it. Melinda and I create out To-Do-Lists each night before bed. You want to be successful? Create a To-Do-List. Put “work out” on your list every day and see how hard it is not to work out!

Medium-term goals are what I like call monthly goals. For example, I might create a medium-term goal of losing 10lbs in a month. If I write that down, look at it every night, you better believe that I’m going to make sure I do my best to reach that goal! Each day I’m going to do everything possible so that I accomplish that goal of losing 10lbs in a month. Or, if I’m a new coach on Team Next Level, I might have a medium-term goal of reaching Emerald Status in one month, which is actually a very reasonable goal. If you write it down, you’re going to do something every day so that you reach that goal.

Long-term goals are what you ultimately strive for. However, you can’t reach your long term goals if you don’t have short-term or medium-term goals. Short-term and medium-term goals keep you focused and doing positive things every day in order to reach your long-term goals. Take some time to really think about a reasonable, but tough goal for you to aim for. Long-term goals can be 1 year, 5 years, or even 25 years, but it’s got to be something that’s going to take quite a while for you to accomplish.

As I said above, you need to set your goals high. If you set a goal too low, you’re not going to accomplish nearly what you could as if you would set you goal high. For example, let’s say that I create a goal of making $25,000 after one year from a part-time business that I just started. I’m going to develop a plan of action to accomplish that goal. However, let’s say that the same person would have created a goal of making $50,000 instead of $25,000. Don’t you think that his plan would involve working harder to achieve his higher goal? You better believe it! This is why it’s very important that you set your goals high!

If you don’t write down your goals, you’re selling yourself short because you can accomplish much more by doing so. It’s a proven fact that creating short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals AND writing them down helps you become more successful! Start creating your To-Do-List every day and begin forming a long-term goals for yourself, and you will start moving in the right direction. I can tell you that much of my success of because of creating goals for myself. I don’t quit until I reach them, and you shouldn’t either!

Today as I was trying to decide which workout to do, I was trying to think of one that didn’t involve the legs in any way, only because there are so sore today that I have to waddle when I walk. Two days ago I decided that I was going to do a legs workout with weights, which was the first time I had used weights in about 2 months. I have been doing the Insanity workouts for the past two months, and I thought that those worked the legs enough, but apparently I was wrong. Anyways, I was trying to avoid a workout that worked the legs, but today was my cardio day because I have been doing 2 days of lifting and then one day of cardio. As much as I wanted to skip the cardio workout, I thought about some of the posts I have made about excuses, and I wasn’t about to use soreness as an excuse not to do a cardio workout. I decided to suck it up, not use soreness as an excuse, and do Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit. After I was finished with the workout, I was glad I did it, and then started thinking about all the questions that I get about working out when sore, especially when going through the first week of P90X.

Skipping a workout because of being sore is only an excuse and nothing more. If you’re going through P90X, the workouts are designed so that you give each muscle group proper amount of rest before working again, so the only reason you decide not to workout is because you don’t think you can do it, or because you’re looking for a reason not to. Whenever I get an email from someone telling me that they didn’t work out that day because their legs were sore from 3 days ago, all they’re doing is looking for me to verify that what they did was correct so that they don’t feel guilty for skipping a workout, but instead of me agreeing with them, I tell them exactly what I think, and that’s that they should have worked out. When most people face adversity, i.e. soreness, they crumble and don’t know how to handle it, and often use adversity as an excuse for failure. However, those who are strong know how to deal with adversity, and are able to push themselves through it. These are the type of people who are successful with most everything they do because they don’t allow themselves to use excuses.

Let’s go back to when I first started P90X. That first week was brutal, and when I mean brutal, I mean I literally didn’t want to get up off the couch. I would have been fine sitting in a recliner that entire week, not working out, and just relaxing and letting my muscles heal, but guess what, that’s not what I did. I trusted in the program and knew that they wouldn’t design it for me to get hurt, so instead of using extreme soreness as an excuse, I pushed myself through each workout. I even found that once I warmed up and stretched, the soreness wasn’t nearly as bad as it was throughout the day. My goal was to not skip one workout during my first 90 days, and nothing was going to stop me from reaching my goal. For those of you who read my blogs daily, you know that I don’t quit until I reach every goal that I set. That’s why I was successful with baseball in college, with transforming myself into someone super healthy and fit, and now with the Beachbody Coaching Business. Learn from this people. When you set a goal, don’t allow yourself to not reach it! If you fail, get back up and try again!

If you are contemplating whether or not to work out because of being sore, take a second to think about this post. All you’re doing is trying to find a reason to justify you not feeling up to working out that day. Instead, suck it up and BRING IT! If you’re giving the muscles proper rest, taking the right supplements (i.e. Recovery Formula), warming up and stretching, and following the videos how they’re supposed to be followed, you should have nothing to worry about.

Let me start by saying, holy cow, this stuff is amazing! I’ve been taking it for over a month now, and it’s by far the best pre-workout supplement that I’ve used. For those of you who don’t know, for the past 6 months I have been trying different kinds of pre-workout supplements to find one that I liked best and one that I can recommend to you all. So far I’ve tried BSN’s NO-Explode, Black Powder, Jack3d, and now 1.M.R. Below, I’m going to rank them from worst to best, including why I do or don’t like them.

(4) Black Powder. This is definitely the worst pre-workout supplement that I have used of the 4. I never got that immediate rush of energy that you associate with pre-workout supplements, but I did have an increase in endurance. However, that’s the only positive thing about this supplement, because I felt nothing out of the norm during the workouts. Plus, I broke out extremely bad in acne while using it, and when I stopped, the acne went away. This is why this supplement get’s two thumbs down.

(3) NO-Explode. This is the first pre-workout supplement that I ever used, and I even used it for a few years. I started taking in back in college, stacking it with creatine monohydrate, and I always got in great workouts! I always had a increase in energy after I took it, and it seemed that my endurance increased as well, but this might have been due to the creatine I was taking. However, after taking it for a while, I had to take more to feel that extra rush of energy. All in all, NO-Explode is a good pre-workout supplement, but not my favorite.

(2) Jack3d. I started taking Jack3d backed in January, and absolutely loved it. About 15 minutes after I took it I started getting a tingly feeling, followed my an immediate increase in energy. This energy boost lasted pretty much the entire workout, and I definitely got more pumps. However, after about 3 months of taking it, I started getting nauseated about 15 minutes into the workout, and I would have to stop to let my stomach settle down. I decided that maybe I should drop down to 1.5 scoops instead of 2, which seemed to cure the nausea. The only issue I have with Jack3d is that my endurance is great during the workout. Jack3d is a great product, though, and why it’s #2 on my list.

(1) 1.M.R. As I said above, this pre-workout supplement blows the rest out of the water! About 15 minutes after taking it I get the “Jack3d tingle,” but it’s a little different feeling. I then get this huge increase in energy that seems to last for the entire workout. Not only is my energy great, but so are my pumps and endurance. I literally feel like I can keep working out, even after I finish! I’ve been able to get in many more reps, and I’m noticing a difference in my muscle mass and definition. The only issue that I have with 1.M.R. is that I crash hardcore once the workout is over. However, I can care less because I know I got in an excellent workout. 1.M.R. gets two thumbs up and is #1 on my pre-workout supplement list.

As most of you know, I’m a HUGE believer in positive thinking and how it can help you succeed with everything you do in life. However, I haven’t always this way. It all started when my father came into my room when I was a teenager and threw a book onto my bed. He didn’t ask me to read it, he told me to. I wish you all could have seen the look on my face, but it was priceless. However, I wasn’t the one to disobey my father, so I did what I was told. The book was called “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Scwhartz, and it’s just what it sounds. The book teaches you how to eliminate negative thinking and replace it with positive thinking, giving you a step by step process on how to do so. The book had such an impact on me that I literally became addicted to personal development books. I haven’t stopped reading since.

I have been listening to an audio book by Jim Rohn called “The Art of Exceptional Living,” and he said “Work hard on your job and earn a living. Work hard on yourself and earn a fortune.” Why do you think this is? Why is personal development so crucial? If I were to talk about the main things that have led me to become successful (besides the guidance from my parents), I would say it’s positive thinking, pushing myself to reach my goals, learning from my failures, and believing in myself and what I can accomplish. What do most personal development books and audios talk about? Exactly what I just listed.

Let’s first talk about positive thinking. I have conditioned my mind to only think positive thoughts, and most of this has to do with my constant reading of personal development books. Like I said above, though, this isn’t how I used to be. In fact, I used to be a pretty negative thinker! Instead of believing I could succeed with something, I always feared failure. Because I was fearing failure, I failed. Once I changed and started believing that I could succeed, my mind then developed ways to figure out HOW TO succeed. Learn from that! If you find yourself fearing failure, then you will fail, but if you believe you will succeed, then your mind will pave the way to success! This is profound stuff!

Next, let’s talk about pushing yourself to reach your goals and learning from your failures. Unfortunately, most people struggle with these two things. For one, they don’t create goals for themselves, and two, they don’t learn from their failures, but rather make excuses to why they failed. Excuses make people feel better about themselves, and that’s why millions of Americans make them every day. “I can’t follow the diet because my family doesn’t support me,” “I can’t commit to the workouts because I don’t have time,” and “I can’t get results because my genetics won’t allow me” are the most common excuses that I hear. Well I’ve got news for you, if you’re making these excuses, you’re suffering from a disease called “Excusitis.” Think about how much you’re selling yourself short by making these excuses. Keep making excuses like that, and you will never succeed in anything that you do. Stop making the excuses, focus on learning from your failures, and see how much happier and successful you will become! Create specific goals for yourself, and don’t quit until you reach those goals. If you fail, make adjustments and continue moving forward.

Are you ready to make a change? If so, personal development is crucial to your success, and you should spend at least 30 minutes a day reading a book or listening to audio. Some books I recommend are “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David Schwartz, “The Magic of Getting What You Want” by David Schwartz, “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy, “Failing Forward” by John Maxwell, “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olsen, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and “Talent is Never Enough” by John Maxwell. You can thank me later!

Most of you might not know this, but Beachbody Coaching is my full time job! It’s Melinda’s as well, which is great because we both get to stay home and spend time with one another, and also be here to watch our baby girl grow up. I feel that this is the best job in the world, but even many of the people that we coach have no idea how we benefit. We answer hundreds of emails every day, helping you all through your fitness journeys, also providing as much support and motivation as possible, because we want you all succeed with getting into the best shape of your lives. That’s our main goal! We enjoy helping you out, but we want you all to understand how we benefit as well.

Since we are your coaches, we earn a commission from any Beachbody products that you purchase through either our sites or by logging into www.teambeachbody.com. We always appreciate it whenever you all purchase through us, and if you’re one of those people, we want to sincerely thank you! Unfortunately, there are still many people that take advantage of us and want free advice, which is fine because we will still help you, but that doesn’t help us earn a living.

The one thing that most people know about Melinda and I is that we never recommend Beachbody products that we haven’t personally tried or that hasn’t worked for us. The ones that we talk about all the time, like Shakeology, P90X, P90X Plus, Insanity, P90X One on One, the Recovery Formula, Multi-Vitamins, Whey Protein, are all products that we have used and have gotten results with. These products work, and that’s why we try to post other people’s reviews about these products as well. We are truly here to help you all out, and that’s the reason we became coaches!

So if you’re someone that we coach and are thinking about purchasing a substitute product, don’t forget about how we benefit from being your coaches. Like I said above, we really appreciate it when you purchase from us! Also, if I’m not your coach yet, if you purchase anything from this site, I will automatically become your coach and help you through the program. If I’m not your coach yet and you want to make me your coach, you can also click on this link below. It’s free to make me your coach!

I’ve been so excited and impressed with a friend of mine’s P90X and Shakeology results that I decided to make a post about it before he’s even finished his 90 days. In fact, he’s only completed something like 50 days of P90X, but has already had a transformation that most people don’t even get after completing 2 rounds! In about 50 days, he has lost over 50lbs. Yeah, that’s a pound lost per day. How? He has committed himself entirely to the P90X Nutrition Guide, Shakeology, and the P90X workouts. We thought his results would slow down, but, well, not so much.

His name is Matt, he’s 19, and he’s been a friend of mine for a few years now. Our dads own a company together, and we both got to work together for a short period while I was transitioning from a part-time to a full-time Beachbody Coach. When I stopped working with him, he started working more frequently with my dad, who eventually got him to commit to P90X and Shakeology. Matt saw the kind of results that dad was having with P90X and decided that he was tired of being out of shape and was ready for a change. Matt will tell you, he was very overweight and has been that way his entire life. He always wanted to lose weight, but didn’t know how. Dad told him exactly what he needed to do and that it would be very tough, but without thinking twice about it, Matt said he was ready to do whatever it took. He hasn’t stopped since.

After about 50 days of using Shakeology every day, committing to the diet, completing each and every workout, and with the support of dad and I, he has gone from 295lbs to 242lbs. We all cannot believe the weight loss that he has experienced and are all very proud of him and the hard work that he has put in. He even just decided to become a coach so that he can help others like we have, and went to the Game Plan Event with us down in Columbus. We did a pretty tough workout down there, and I was very impressed with how hard he pushed himself. He was keeping up with every single one of us! He knows the definition of hard work and commitment, and doesn’t plan on slowing down. It might take him a few rounds to get completely ripped, but I guarantee you that he will get there. My guess is that he’s going to have a total weight loss of around 120lbs when it’s all said and done!

Matt, congrats on your P90X and Shakeology results so far and keep it up!

Most of you who have read my story on either Team Beachbody or this site, you know that I’ve always had a passion for helping other people. I knew going into college that I wanted a career that would be very fulfilling in that aspect, and I thought why not become a Financial Advisor, where I could do something I enjoyed, but yet still help people become financially stable. It sounded like a great idea at the time, but as soon as I graduated and started my career, I quickly discovered that it wasn’t the career that I always thought I wanted. I wasn’t passionate about finance anymore, and this was probably because of the negative view that people had about Financial Planners. As much as I tried to force myself to enjoy what I was doing, I just couldn’t, and I knew that it wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I needed to find a career that didn’t feel like a job, but something that was fun, I could make good money at, but more importantly, help thousands of people change their lives. My dream came true when I discovered Team Beachbody and the Beachbody Coaching Opportunity.

You can call it fate, chance, or whatever, but the way I got introduced to Beachbody is rather a unique story. About 3 months into my financial advising job I came across P90X on an infomercial late one night while eating a bowl of ice cream. That’s not a joke either, I was literally eating a big bowl of ice cream while watching the P90X infomercial! After watching it for about a half hour (my eyes were glued to the TV for some reason), I decided that that night was the night I was going to change my life. I was tired of being overweight, unhappy, and was ready to change my health and get my confidence level back up to where it used to be. I went online, ordered P90X, and it came about 5 days later. To make a long story short, I committed myself 100% to both the diet and the workouts, and ended up losing 25lbs and 10% body fat in 90 days. I was ripped, and people took notice.

Everyone, from my friends, family, to people online, constantly contacted me asking about how I got into such great shape. I found myself spending a lot of time dishing out diet advice and explaining to people what exactly I did to get ripped! This was fun! I felt fulfilled because I had people thanking me for helping them lose 5lbs, 10lbs, and helping them feel better about themselves. Then my coach, Barbie, approached me to become a coach myself. She explained that I could make money doing exactly what I was doing, and that’s recommending Beachbody products to people and supporting them through their fitness journey. It actually took me a little while to get involved, but once I thought about it, it just made sense. Did I understand at the time that I could make a lot of money doing this? Not at all. I got into it with the sole purpose of helping people, and if I made a few bucks here and there, then great! But money was not my driving factor for becoming a Beachbody Coach.

After a few months of coaching, I found that this was where my passion was. It didn’t feel like work to me, and I started thinking, “What if I could make this a full-time job and do something all the time that I was very passionate about?” To be honest, I got so excited by the idea that I didn’t know where to start! My mind went in a 100 different directions, and I wanted to do everything at once, but had to slow down and put together a plan. Once I established a plan of action, I worked every day towards making Beachbody Coaching my full-time job. A year and 4 months later, my dream came true. I got to quit my job and become a full-time Beachbody Coach, doing something I loved! It gives me goosebumps just talking about it because I’m truly blessed to be in this position, making money doing something that doesn’t feel like a job, where I get to help people change their lives. What is better than that? If you ask me, I would say nothing.

I can tell you right now that there is nothing better than knowing you have had a positive impact on somebody’s life. For someone to come up to you and say “You have changed my life and I want to thank you” is probably one of the greatest feelings you will ever feel. Since becoming a coach, I’ve gotten to experience that over and over again, and this is what keeps me going. This is a satisfying career, and that’s why every single person in my immediate family has become a coach like I am. My mom, dad, sister, and my fiance are all coaches on my team, building their businesses, helping people change their lives. Not only have I gotten them all involved with the coaching business, but I have helped them all change from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one, and that’s just an amazing feeling.

If you want to learn more about the Coaching Opportunity, email me at pioneerballplayer28@yahoo.com and we will set up a call to talk more about it in detail. Guys, this is truly an amazing opportunity, and I want as many of you to experience what I’ve gotten to experience!
