Q: What equipment will I need with P90X?

A: You will need the P90X Pull-Up Bar and either resistance bands or dumbbells. Other equipment that helps, but isn’t completely necessary are the Yoga Blocks, PowerStands, and Heart Rate Monitor.

QWhich do you recommend: the bands or dumbbells?

A: Both are very effective. However, if you travel a lot, it would be good for you to get the resistance bands, which can be easily packed away in your suitcase. Dumbbells are excellent if you’re looking to build a lot of mass.

Q: What range of dumbbells do you use?

A: I currently use a range from 10lbs to 90lbs, but started off using 10lbs to 50lbs.

I highly recommend the P90X Pull-Up Bar because it has all the grips necessary for P90X exercises. Also, you will need a set of dumbbells, not just one.

    Hey Josh,

What kind of shoes do you recommend. I’ve got some NB running shoes that I’ve been using the last 3 weeks, although the side support on them isn’t as great as I’d like, I sometimes have the sides of my feet start hurting because they’re kind of pushing over on the edge of the shoes. Should I get some cross trainers or trail running shoes? Thanks.

I have to use shoes that have a ton of padding so that I don’t get shin splints from workouts like Plyos. Currently, I have a pair of New Balance shoes like what you have. Just get something that is comfortable.

Josh, do you recommend getting the Peak Performance upgrade (pullup bar, drink, bands)? Or just getting the pullup bar from the store? Thanks man. Great job!

  • Josh (author) said:

    Josh,

What do you recommend I do about weights? I am using bands right now and I feel they are not very effective for me no matter how much resistance I give them. I would like to aqcuire some weights but they are very expensive! (College student =] ) I have been going through the workouts with the bands to get started but I’d like to get into phase 2 with weights, thank you and great job!

    Regards,
    Anthony

Do you do weighted pull-ups? Or weight dips?

  • Josh (author) said:

Do you have a weight room at your college? If so, start doing your resistance workouts there! Just bring along your Fitness Guide, which has all the moves for each workout.

    Yeah man!

hey josh, what is the max weight you used your dumbbells on during your first round of p90x?

also wondering where exactly the list of exerice moves are in the guide, i can’t seem to find it

  • Josh (author) said:

Hey man! The most I used during my first round was about 55lbs. Also, the fitness guide has a list of all the moves with each exercise.

Hey man, really amazing results! If I were to buy some free weights, should I get like increments of 10 lbs from 10-50 or should I also get 15’s and 25’s?

  • Josh (author) said:

Thanks man! You might want to get 15’s and 25’s, all depending on how much you can do for each exercise. You want to make sure you get in the right amount of reps, and it might take those weights in order to do so.
