Was wondering, how strict is your diet? If I basically stay in the clear from junk food and take my protein shakes will I be alright? OR should I set up some kind of meal plan. I’m in my first week of p90x.
    Thanks,
    from,
    Sean

Following the Nutrition Guide is essential in getting great results, which is what I did. You can find more information about my diet in the “Q&A” and “My Diet” sections.

Josh, I just purchased p90x from a different website. I found you on youtube and came to your site. Can I still sign up to be coached even though I have already purchased p90x?

  • Josh (author) said:

Yeah, you will more than likely have to make the coach switch though, and here is how to do so..

Hey Coach, why in the little form to fill in doesn’t appear Mexico??
That program just exist in USA?
    Thank for you attention.

  • Josh (author) said:

Unfortunately, Beachbody only sells products to the US and Canada, but hopefully that changes soon.

What if I cant get through the Plyometrics dvd im on my second day of P90x is this normal that I cant keep up?

  • Josh (author) said:

Pause it as many times as you have to, but complete the entire workout.

  • Dustin said:

Thanks man. oh and i was wondering i dont really like yoga x is it okay if i switch it out with cardio or plyo?

  • Josh (author) said:

There are a ton of benefits of Yoga, but if you really hate it, then do Cardio X instead.

  • Luis said:

    Hey Josh
I saw your video on you tube and it is very motivating! I recently got the P90X dvd’s from a friend that never really stuck with the program but unfortunately that’s all he really had. I don’t know if I’m missing some vital things that come with the dvd’s. I really want to start the program but I want to do it right the first time. What do I really need to do this?? Thanks!

  • Josh (author) said:

You need to check out the “Q&A” section, which will help guide you in the right direction.

    hi
i am 18 yrs old and i have a pretty normal body.
i dont have too much fat except for my hip and stomach area.
you cant even tell the fat if i am wearing something.
i have the p90x set, and i started a month ago.
i just wanted to ask if the fat that i have in my hip area will go away with the ab ripper x.
because i dont see much results in a monts.

    thank you

  • Josh (author) said:

The fat will go away because of following a strict diet and completing all the workouts, not from one workout. The diet makes up 80% of your results, and if you can’t commit to it, you will get discouraged and lose motivation.

  • willis said:

i got a huge question for the p90x and everything. ive been working out for about a month now i saw the p90x on tv and said “man i want results like that” but my question is me being already pretty slim and built will this give me results simaler to yours?

  • Josh (author) said:

This is an excellent program that will help you get into great shape, just as long as you commit yourself to both the diet and workouts. If you’re interested, you can purchase it from this site.

I have won several international Judo titles in the past so i am a serious competitor, if I didn’t think I couldn’t win the World title i wouldn’t enter. I live in Europe and need motivated by you!!!

  • Josh (author) said:

Unfortunately, the program that I follow is P90X, and it’s not available outside the US and Canada. I also cannot coach you since you live there as well. Sorry!

  • Jason W said:

    Hi Josh,

    Couple questions for you:

Do you add a weight pack for your pullups/pushups? If so , at what point did you start incorporating this into your workouts?

When you finish the first round of P90X, do you stick to a 40/40/20 diet to maintain?

    Thanks

  • Josh (author) said:

I used to before my injury. I didn’t start doing that until about the year mark of doing the program. However, if you feel your’re ready before then, then go for it! Also, I made many adjustments to my diet after Round 1 to gain some mass, so no, I didn’t stick with that ratio. Also, you can make me your coach by clicking on this link: http://budurl.com/nhdy

  • Jason W said:

Thanks. I did make you my coach yesterday.

I’ll check your diet blogs to see the adjustments you made, but I’m guessing it was more along the lines of 50/30/20?

I was a bodybuilder in my 20’s and early 30’s. I’m now 41 and while I’ve never stopped working out, I definitely have been dogging it for years. I’m on my first round of P90X Week 2. My muscle memory is good and I’m doing 15-18 pullups in every set so I’m thinking about adding the weight to bring down the reps.

  • Josh (author) said:

Muscle memory plays a huge role in how quick you get results, and is one of the main reasons for my quick transformation. By cleaning up your diet and completing the workouts, you aren’t going to believe the results you will get. Let me know if you have other questions.

  • Dave said:

hey josh i was wondering if you did any extra working out besides just the p90x?..like onceyou were finished with chest and back did you do any extrar excercises during the week that involved your chest? or did you basically just stick to the p90x dvds and the routine?
    thanks man
    Dave

  • Josh (author) said:

I didn’t do anything extra until the 2nd round. I recommend following the diet and workouts exactly how it’s set up for the first round. Also, you can make me your coach by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685

    hey josh,
ive been working out for about 2 years now and now im in my 3rd week of p90x. im right handed and im seeing that my right Bi and forearm are getting bigger then my left Bi and forearm. is that something that can be corrected? or am i doing something wrong?
    thanks,
    Dave

  • Justin said:

Hey Josh i was wondering. what do you do if you get sick? Everyone in my household has the flu and its only a matter of time before i get it! I dont want to change my routine, but if i cant eat or workout then what? Start over from where i left off? And what would you recommend for food in case im down and out? Thnx alot man.

  • Josh (author) said:

It’s going to be important that you focus on the same amount of reps for both arms. It’s actually common to experience that, so it’s nothing to worry about.

  • Jen K said:

    Josh,
I sent you an email earlier today questioning how to switch coaches. I finally figured it out, after clicking on this page and seeing your instructions. I sent the email as you say to do, and CC: to you. How long does it normally take for them to do the switch? I have some questions about the nutrition plan to ask you, regarding my calories compared to stats. Looking forward to sharing in your wisdow!! Thanks.

  • Josh (author) said:

If you get sick, it’s important that you rest until you’re healed. Just start back where you left off. Also, just keep focusing on the proper diet and limit the carbs since you’re not exercising.

  • Josh (author) said:

It usually takes 3-5 days for the switch.

  • saul said:

    hey josh

ok i got a question im getting my p90x on the 14 of febuary, and well you said that after you finished the whole 90 days you kept going.

well my question is after you finished the 90 days how do you keep going…do you start from the beging…after finishing it how long do you wait till you start it again…and dosent your muscles get use to it after doing the p90x for exaplme after doing it 3 times…

  • Dave said:

    hey josh,
i am in my 3rd week of p90x and i have been slacking a little with doing the workouts everyday. im a full time student and honestly just didnt have time to do every workout. would it be a bad thing to start all over or should i just move on to the next phase?
    thanks
    Dave

  • Josh (author) said:

I purchased P90X Plus, and then the One on One videos to continue with my transformation. I have mixed all 3 programs together. If you keep mixing things up you won’t plateau.

  • Josh (author) said:

I’m going to be honest with you, if you don’t have the time now you are never going to have the time. I started P90X with a full time job as a financial advisor, working from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM every day, and I still made time to work out every day. Time is an excuse that people use if they don’t want to dedicate to something. P90X will change your life if you can commit to it, so it’s definitely worth the time.

  • Dave said:

    josh,
so would it be smart to start back over im getting done with one or my classes in a week so ill have the time to dedicate myself?
    thanks
    Dave

  • Josh (author) said:

Start over and dedicate yourself this time.

  • saul said:

    hey josh

first i wanted to say thank you for making time to answer my questions i always look forward on reading your answers to my questions thank you

my question today is well everyone seems to be getting muscular on their biceps, abs, and all the upper body but what about the lower body, will i get muscular on my legs and calves or what…well i want to develop my legs to be a little bigger so any tip on me getting bigger legs…

  • Josh (author) said:

You won’t believe how much P90X develops your lower body. Nobody really things about taking pictures of their legs, and that’s why you never see or hear anything about it. I can assure you that your legs will get stronger from the program!

  • Dan said:

Josh, first off want to thank you for your site. For some reason, I like the results I’ve seen on your youtube page, and it drew me here. I’ve always been a slender guy. I can eat what I want, when I want. That being said, I eat once, to twice a day. I’m in my thirties, and due to some back problems (old wrestling injuries) can start P90X in 20 days. I’m very serious about wanting results, I don’t want to look like a puffed up Pee Wee Herman. I believe in P90X and am willing to subscribe to all the nutrition, vitamins, etc. I’m looking at going to a Phase 2, Phase II eating plan right away based on weight and caloric need according to the guide. Do you have any tips for gaining mass? My caloric need with RMR+ workout etc is around 2424 a day. I’m 6′and now around 150 pounds. I would like to see the results you have.
    Thanks in advance. Dan

  • Josh (author) said:

First of all, you need to be eating 5-6 times a day to keep the metabolism high. Also, you need to read the post called “Gain Mass With P90X” in the “Workouts” section. Also, the first thing I recommend all new people to do is get the Club Membership, which gives you access to trainer tips, healthy recipes, and creates custom meal plans for you. There are many other benefits as well, and you can learn more by clicking on this link: http://www.iwanttogetripped.com/get-fit/club-membership/. Being a Club Member helped me tremendously when I first started the program!

  • Victor said:

I was taught to always seek advice from the people who have the results you want! by that I have requested for you to be my coach. your video convinced me to the p90x workout, while I know results like yours are not easy I’m a person who is not scared of hard work. Have an Awesome day looking forward to your coaching.

    -Vitor.

    hey josh

quick question i order p90x on saturday february 13 and today is thursaday february 18 and i just wanted to know how long those it take to get it???????????

  • Josh (author) said:

More and likely your order wasn’t processed until Monday, and it usually takes 5-7 days for shipping.

  • jack said:

Hey Josh! U results are freakin awesome! That being said, i wanted to ask you, How many rounds of p90x does it take to plateau? and wut should i do if i plateau with p90x? money is no object so if purchasing another workout routine is what it takes then ill do it. and one more thing, if i buy something from your site, will you be my coach? Thanks for making time to answer my questions!

  • Josh (author) said:

Usually it takes more than one round of P90X before you start to plateau. It took me about two rounds, but then I just made adjustments to my diet and workouts so that I wouldn’t continue to plateau. However, I also added in programs like P90X Plus and One on One, which I am still doing today. You can also look into Insnaity, which is what many people do after P90X. If you purchase anything from this site, I will automatically be made your coach! Let me know if you have other questions.

  • jack said:

Thanks man, but what program would you recommend for more mass gaining after p90x? I realy want to gain mass at this point

  • Josh (author) said:

    I mixed together P90X and P90X Plus.

  • jack said:

Last thing, can i have my dinner with my p90x results and recovery formula drink? im going to start purchasing everything i need from your site, and does the heart rate monitors you sell tell you how many calories you burned during the workout also?

  • Josh (author) said:

You’re supposed to take the Recovery Formula right after the workouts. Also, the HR Monitors don’t tell you how many cals you burn, but that would be nice if they did.

  • jack said:

ya it would man but for recover drink, i workout at 5, finish at 6 which is when i usually have my dinner so would it be ok to just have both of them together or would that slow metabolism?

  • Josh (author) said:

Read the directions on the package on how to take the supplement.

  • Scott said:

Hi, I just started the P90X 2 weeks ago and ran across you on youtube which lead me to here. Your story is so similar to mine which caught my attention. The only difference is that you have an amazing body now. How can I add you as my coach if I did not do it when I initially joined the teambeachbody website? I think it automatically gives you some random person but would like you to be mine.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Dustin said:

I’m halfway through phase 2, and so far I have lost 10 lbs, but the measurement around my lower abs is still the same, maybe .25 inches down. Cannot figure out why that areaa is not changing. Seems like I have lost in my face, upper abs, and legs. I started at 212 lbs so I expect it to be 2 rounds before I get your results. I am posting my diet for your critique, it may be the reason my waist is not moving. I know I should be taking in around 2,000 cals, but I think I started p90x eating 2200-2400 so that probably didn’t help either.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup greek yogurt in it.

snack: 30g protein shake with 1/2 cup milk, 1tbsp natural peanut butter

lunch: turkey burger(40g) protein, some fresh spinach

snack: 30g protein shake, 1/2 cup mi/k, 1 tbsp peanut butter or protein bar

supper: whole chicken breast, 1 serving of vegetables

  • Josh (author) said:

You need to log what you eat into http://www.fitday.com and then let me know the amount of calories and % of f/c/p. I’ll be able to help you better this way.

  • Josh (author) said:

Hi Josh! I am a 47 year old female that is considering P90x. I have a couple concerns. I am slightly overweight but have been working out 5-6 days per week for about 5 months now (Tae-Bo, Biggest Loser Boot Camp, etc). I have lost some weigh but am toning, which is more important to me. Is P90x for me if I just want to be in shape (not ripped). Also, I have Celiac’s Disease and cannot ingest any gluten. How will the nutrional part work for me?

  • Josh (author) said:

Hey Maureen! What you could do is follow the Lean version of P90X, which is what many women choose. Also, you will need to talk to a nutrition expert regarding your gluten issue. To do so just post a question to the nutrition experts in the Team Beachbody Community Forums. If you decide to order the program, you can do so from this site, which will make me your coach and I’ll be here to help you through the program.

    Hi Josh,

I have a valid question which no one seems to know the answer to. When I sleep at night, my body jumps/jerks/muscles twitch and this wakes me up. Is this related to muscle fatigue or maybe a lack of minerals? I am following the fat shredder diet on level 3 as my weight is 207 lb and have been on the past 40 days as I need to shed a lot of weight.

I you can help or at least point me in the right dorection?

PS, can I still add you as my coach even thoe I live in the UK?

PPS, love the USA and everything about it

    Sharif

    Hey josh,

i’ve only started the p90x for three days, Chest and back really hit me hard, however , polymetrics and shoulder arms werent as hard. (i followed the exact exercise from the dvd for polymetrics; and used the only weigts available, 8 pounders for shoulder arms.) i dont know if im not doing enought or if maybe its easier since im a swimmer. thanks

  • Josh (author) said:

You need to increase the weight. 8lbs is super light, and really isn’t going to help you get results.

  • Steve Kollar said:

Hey Josh, I have a question for you…I am in real good shape already, I want to get a little more defined but mainly build muscle mass. I don’t want to lose weight at all, rather I would like to gain about 8-10 lbs of muscle mass. I don’t know exactly how many calories I should be eating or what I should be eating..On dailyplate it recommends that I take in 3800 calories a day because of my activity level, and in the nutritin guide it says about 2500 Level II. My main goal is to gain muscle mass and rip up my abs. I feel like I am losing size (11days in) maybe due to the fact that I was working out 4-5x week, working each muscle group 2x per week. I hear you saying the diet is the most important thing, and I would love to learn more about that. I have a new coach (already switched) but I would totally appreciate it if you could help me out a bit. I’ve posted all over the place! Thanks for your time,

    Steve

  • Josh (author) said:

Hey man. If your goal is to gain mass, then you will need to increase the calories. However, it will make it hard for you to lose the body fat and get the abs. I recommend focusing on losing the body fat first, and then on gaining mass.

  • Steve said:

    Hey Josh,

I don’t have a whole lot of fat to lose in the first place..I”m right around 11%..I’m about 5′11 165lbs and very active..I wanted to do the program to continue to get shredded and also build some mass if possible. It is recommended that I eat about 3400 calories a day, which for me is going to be really really tough because I don’t eat a ton as it is..I get what your saying though as far as trying to build mass by eating all those calories and shredding body fat…Sort of counterproductive..Thanks for the help,

    Steve

  • Josh (author) said:

Maybe take in somewhere in the middle, somewhere around 2,700 cals, and do carb cycling, which involves taking in more carbs on resistance days and then cutting back on cardio days. I’ve done carb cycling before, and it helps you lose fat and increase mass!

  • evan said:

hi josh i just want to no if i should do lean my body fat%15 and need to lose about 15kg. for the hole 90 days should i do lean or what?

  • evan said:

hi josh i got to lose a bit of weight im 18% body fat for the first round of p90x should i just do lean and not classic or doubles until im down a bit more

Stick with the Classic version, which has a balance of cardio and resistance workouts. Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, click on the link to do so: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685

I am almost 40 years old and want the challenge of P90X. I have purchased it and read all the books. I took the fitness test and passed most of it. Here is my question. I am 100 lbs overweight. I really wonder if P90X is a reality or do I need to lose a lot of weight before I begin it?

  • Josh (author) said:

@Lesley. It’s going to be important for you to modify most of the exercises, and Tony Horton shows you how to do so. You’re going to have to be patient and commit yourself 110% to both the diet and workouts if you want to see steady weight loss. I can be here to help you through the program, but you will need to make me your coach, and here is how to do so: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685

hey josh, i’ve been training for 4 months now in the gym and i used programs that my coach personally designed for me and by the way i’m 65 kg and 1.76 meters tall and i used to be slim with a bit of fats on my stomach area and now i’m having great result in my chest, shoulders, bi & tri but my ABS are still not appearing quiet well cuz they’re covered by a bit of fats and i want to change that!! But i dont really know how because i’m still considered thin.
PS: i’ve been taking mass gainers
please josh i got a month now to train before i travel so i need a fast solution to change the way my abs look like.

  • Josh (author) said:

@dDjelassi. If you want to lose the fat around your abs, you have to be very strict with your diet. I tell all the people that I coach that the key to seeing the abs is the diet! Also, you have to make sure you’re doing the proper workouts as well, and that’s why I highly recommend P90X. P90X comes with a Nutrition Guide, which will help you lose the fat.

  • Djelassi said:

thx josh well now i increased my weight i’m 70kg (140 lb) and my bulking phase ended so i started doing 10 min cardio everyday during my workout and i’m using the AB ripper X CD for my abs workout so do u think that this is enough???
ps: I’m talking nitro tech hardcore pro series to keep my muscles strong and healthy and it contains no fats

  • Josh (author) said:

@Djelassi. If you’re trying to gain mass, you need to be doing more than just TMT and ARX. You need to add in some resistance training exercises, and the P90X workouts are good for that. Just focus on 8-10 reps.

Also, am I your coach? If not, click on this link to make me your coach: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/47458

    Hi Josh.

Im 14 and i have just completed phase one of P90X. As important as it is to follow the nutrition guide, it is really hard for me to tell my parents how to cook for me. Is it absolutely crucial that i use it? I am not overweight, i am 5″ 9′ and weigh 132lbs. I have noticed some pretty decent results so far but i am just wondering how crucial the nutrition guide would be for me

    Thanks

    Jack

  • Josh (author) said:

@Jack. Diet is crucial bud. Even if you’re not looking to lose weight, you still need to take in enough healthy calories to help you build muscle properly.

  • Jack F said:

    Alright thanks.

To add on to this, before starting P90X i had been taking isopure protein and figured i didn’t really need the recovery formula. Is it okay if i dont use the formula or should i use both?

  • Josh (author) said:

@Jack. Whey protein and the Recovery Formula are two different supplements. I take both.

  • Jack F said:

    Hey Josh
I read ur post about gaining mass. I just wanted to ask i am doing the regular classic version of P90X. If i was to drop a cardio workout and add in a resistance workout which two would you recommend?

  • Josh (author) said:

@Jack. Probably replace Kenpo with a resistance workout.
