Last night I was sitting outside talking to one of my best friends, letting him know how proud I was of him for really taking the steps necessary to change his life for the better. It’s been a long process, but what impresses me so much is that he has never stopped, even when things have gotten tough, especially in a time when Americans are accustomed to giving up at the first sign of failure. I’ll have to admit, I have been extremely fortunate to be raised to never quit, even when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. We had and still have a saying in my family, “Spencer’s never quit,” and it’s not just a saying, but a philosophy we live by. It’s not a coincidence that I have had an outstanding transformation with P90X and unbelievable success with the Beachbody Business, winning Top Beachbody Coach 2010. There have been many times over the course of 3 years where anyone else would have quit, but that’s not how I’m geared. I don’t stop, no matter what the circumstance, until I reach my goals.
It’s sad to see so many people give up on their dreams as soon as one little thing goes wrong or something becomes “too hard.” Because of being a Beachbody coach for 3 years now, I have been able to witness this in action, and unfortunately, I see it way too many times for my liking. People will come to me, asking me what they need to do to change their lives. They are unhappy with where they are, overweight, lack confidence, and I think they have it set in their minds that it’s going to be smooth sailing to their end goal. No, it doesn’t work that way. I don’t care who tells you otherwise, nothing comes easy. It’s hard to get into shape; it’s hard to not skip a workout for 90 days; it’s hard to commit yourself 100% to a healthy diet, but if you can, your life will forever be changed, no question about it. You think that I wasn’t sore during my first week of P90X? I couldn’t move! You think I didn’t want that bowl of ice cream before bed? The cravings were unreal. It was a challenge for me, but instead of giving up when the going got tough, I kept moving forward, knowing that if I continued to do so I would reach all of my fitness goals by the end of 90 days. Guess what, I did, and literally got into the best shape of my life.
The same goes for businesses as well. It’s unbelievable and baffling to me to see so many people begin a business and then quit after a month because they “aren’t seeing results.” Really? If you want to live with mediocrity for the rest of your life, continue on this path, but if you want to become financially independent, create freedom for you and your family, you’ve got to understand that success takes time, patience, commitment, hard work, passion, and your ability to always move forward, no matter how tough things get or how many times you fail. Always embrace failure as a necessity for success. In fact, once you can accept failure, you will improve your life in so many different ways because you will now look at it as a stepping stone instead of a road block. My best friend now sees failure as a stepping stone, and it’s no surprise to me that he is beginning to experience some sort of success. That light at the end of the tunnel that used to not exist is now a small, dim light, but what’s going to happen is that every time he experiences a rough spot in the road or failure, he will move forward instead of give up, and that light will get brighter and brighter as time goes on, to the point where it will eventually be this massive spotlight. He will “get it,” and there will be nothing that will stop him from reaching every single goal he sets.
Are you going to allow yourself to settle for mediocrity? Are you going to give up at the first sign of failure? Or are you going to be that person who is always focused, determined, always moving forward, no matter how tough things become? That’s the person that you must become if you want to succeed in life. If you are a brand new Beachbody Coach, frustrated because things aren’t progressing the way you thought they should, or someone just starting P90X, wore out, exhausted, and losing motivation quickly, what path are you going to choose? The one that leads you down the road to success, or the one that 98% of Americans now follow, giving up on their dreams? The choice is yours, but if you want to create financial security for your family, if you want to lose 50 lbs and get healthy once again, the path you have to take is the obvious one. Don’t ever give up! Always focus on moving forward.
