Living A Dream

Last night I was sitting with Melinda, listening to some relaxing spa music, candles lit, drinking a glass of white wine in our brand new house, and everything just sort of hit me at once. I looked at Melinda and asked, “Is this really happening?” Life has whizzed by so quickly over the past 3 years, and it just hit me that we have completely turned our lives around. We went from nothing to everything in a short amount of time. We are living a dream, our dream that we talked about while sitting on our couch in our tiny one bedroom apartment that we could barely afford. A dream that I knew was possible with the right support, amount of hard work and sacrifices. Life is surreal at this moment, but we have worked so hard to get where we are today. Here’s my story.

After college, life was stressful. I had just begun a career as a Financial Adviser, a field that I thought was for me, and I was struggling greatly. It was tough for a young guy to make it in such a prestigious career, but I was determined to make it work. That’s just how I was raised, to never give up on anything and put in 100% effort to reach every goal. My career eventually got in the way of my health and I had let myself go, gaining close to 25 lbs, a weight that is quite a bit for a short 5’7″ guy like myself. I knew I needed to get back to having a balance of work and health, so I began looking for something that could help me change things around, and that’s when I came across the P90X infomercial. For some reason I knew the program was for me, maybe it was how they advertised it as very hard, I don’t know, but I ended up ordering it and never looked back. 90 days of complete commitment to the diet and workouts and I had reached every fitness goal that I ever set, losing 25 lbs, getting my desired 6 pack, and feeling more confident and energetic than ever!

However, I was still struggling with my career, and it even got to the point where I was suspended from my pay because I couldn’t reach my quota. It’s tough trying to pay bills when you have no money coming in! I would find extra work wherever I could, working for my dad, just so that I could have enough money for groceries and paying my rent. These weren’t enjoyable times! I was working a ton of hours trying to somehow figure out how to make my Financial Advising career work, which was unbelievably stressful, but yet additionally working with my dad to pay my bills and survive. Not fun. However, there was one thing that kept me sane during this time, and that was helping people get healthy just as I had done by going through P90X. Health and fitness sort of evolved into a passion of mine, and because I got such outstanding P90X results, tons of people came to me for help and advice! After working many hours, fitting in my workout afterwards, I would sit behind the computer and answer email after email of people asking me for help, and I just sort of found myself getting absorbed by it. I’d be up till 2 or 3 in the morning, making sure I answered every single email because it made me feel great. I was making a difference in the world! My passion has always been to help others, going back to my involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters in high school, and this was filling the void that I had been experiencing ever since I stopped being a part of the program.

What’s interesting is that I was doing all this for a few months without being an official Beachbody Coach, and then I finally gave in and joined up, not for the business aspect, though, but rather so that I could help more people. I had enough on my plate at the time, worrying about how the heck I was going to survive financially, so the business part of Beachbody Coaching had not even crossed my mind. However, I had found that because I was focusing solely on helping others, recommending the products that I had used and had worked for me, people were purchasing them from me, seeking my help, and I had begun to build a small little business. After months of doing this, I had a little bit of income coming in from Beachbody, but I was still not getting paid from my full time career because I couldn’t catch up to the month’s I missed of not hitting my quota, so things were still very tough. That’s when I met Melinda.

Melinda, my now wife, was everything I had been searching for in a woman, beautiful, smart, caring, loved sports, and always put others before herself. I knew that I would marry her from the moment I met her, and I’m not kidding about that either because I told my parents I was going to, and well, I did! We eventually moved in together, had Madison, but things were still very, very tough. We lived in a tiny, one bedroom apartment, slept on the couch so that Madison could sleep in our only room, and still struggled paying our bills. We had government assistance at the time, helping us get through these rough times, and did what we had to do to get by. There came a moment where we both had just had enough, and that’s when we had “the talk.” I remember this moment like it was yesterday, and I sat Melinda down on the couch, explained to her my goals and dreams for our family, and said that with her support I would be able to turn our lives around. I explained that it would take unbelievable hard work and sacrifice, but if she was on board that we would accomplish everything we had always dreamed of, no matter what it took. I was ready to take my Beachbody Business to the next level. That moment our lives changed forever.

I started learning the ins and outs of the business, found ways to help and reach out to more people, talked to business experts, and did what I had to in order to start seeing success, and well, it paid off! In a year’s time I was able to quit everything else I was doing and focus on being a full-time Beachbody Coach. I had increased our income almost 12 times in a year, making enough money to support our family and relax a bit, getting off of government support, and moved into a comfortable 2 bedroom apartment. At that moment I created bigger dreams, wanted more freedom to do everything we had always wanted to do, like travel all over the world, give Melinda and Madison the life they DESERVE, and went even harder with the business. Mid 2010 I had wrote down on my goal board that I hung in my living room that I wanted to achieve the prestigious Top Beachbody Coach 2010 award, meaning that I had to beat out over 50,000+ reps here in the U.S.! I could see myself on stage at Summit receiving the award and BELIEVED that I could accomplish it, so I started putting in the necessary work in order to achieve that goal. When January 2011 rolled around, I had learned that I had achieved my goal and won Top Beachbody Coach 2010!

Because of the work I had put in over the past year and a half or so, I was able to increase our income to six-figures, something I didn’t think would happen until I was well into my 30’s or 40’s! We began winning all sorts of incentive trips, going on a cruise, Dallas, L.A., France, and now Bahama’s and Tahiti, which we are heading to in the next month. In 2011 I was able to increase my income by another 3X, and Melinda was also making six-figures herself, so as a couple we were making well into the six-figure income. We bought ourselves a BMW 3 Series, and then eventually I bought myself my dream car, a brand new 2011 BMW Z4 (picture above) with the Sport package! Our next goal was the biggest of them all, and that’s buying our dream home. After searching for months on end, we finally found one that we felt fit us perfectly, and just moved in this past weekend. It literally has everything that I had always dreamed of in a house, a “Man Cave” with a theater room and bar (picture above), patio with a grill and fireplace (picture above), granite countertops, my own office, 4 bedrooms, a workout room, a stone shower and jacuzzi bath, and an unbelievable garage and kitchen (picture above). Yesterday was the first day that Melinda and I were by ourselves, and like I mentioned above, it just sort of hit us. We are here. We have accomplished everything that we wanted to accomplish, everything that we talked about when we were sitting on that couch, struggling to make ends meet. We get to work from home, travel when we want, and don’t have to worry about any financial issues. We are in fact living a dream!
