For those of you who follow my site, I usually have a balance of posts between fitness, motivation, and occasionally business, and today I want to talk a little bit about business and careers. Everybody has a job, and unfortunately, most people don’t particular enjoy that job. I can vouch for that and admit that I was one of those people before I became a Beachbody Coach. Anyways, I’ll talk about my story in a bit, but the reason for this post is to talk about one of the key aspects to becoming successful with your career, and that’s having complete passion for it.
Passion creates success. If you would go and ask 10 of the most successful people you know what are some of the key things that have allowed them to become successful, I can almost guarantee you that one thing they will mention every time is being passionate about what they do. When I think about the success I’ve had with being a Beachbody Coach, it makes complete sense because I love what I do. I literally wake up every morning excited to get to work because it doesn’t feel like work for me, but rather a hobby. I get to help people change their lives on a daily basis! What’s better than that? I guess my passion for helping others all started when I decided to become a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization back in high school. I was a mentor for a little 8 year old boy named David for a few years, being that fatherly figure he had never had, and ever since then I had always wanted to find a career where I can have that same impact on people’s lives. I thought that becoming a Financial Advisor was the answer, but I was wrong.
When I graduated college I decided to become a Financial Advisor, working under other people. For some reason, I just never really became passionate about that job because I always felt like something was missing. Sure, I was impacting lives in regards to helping them prepare for the future financially, but I didn’t feel like I was having the amount and kind of impact that I desired to have. Plus, the training was so revolved around making sales that it left a sour taste in my mouth. What was unfortunate was that I had to talk to businesses and people using the company’s sales methods, and not only was it uncomfortable for me, it was uncomfortable for everyone I was talking to. I figured that hey, these people must know what their doing, so I will go with what they say, but I found out quickly that becoming successful didn’t revolve around sales methods, but rather being passionate about what you do. I can honestly say that I wasn’t passionate about being a Financial Advisor and that’s why I never was able to succeed in it like I wanted to.
About 3 months into my Financial Advising career, by freak accident I came across P90X, got into the best shape of my life in 90 days, and then decided to become a Beachbody Coach. I didn’t get into the business because I wanted to start up another business. In fact, I didn’t really understand the whole business side to coaching, but rather I got involved because I became passionate about helping other people get into great shape. I knew a solution to weight loss, and I wanted to share that solution with everyone, and my passion for the program made it extremely easy to talk about! I based coaching around changing lives period. I wasn’t worried about making sales, but what was interesting is that because I didn’t approach the Beachbody Business as a business, it started becoming a business. My recommendations turned into sales, and I started building momentum to the point where a year and a half into my coaching career I decided to make it my full-time job. It was and still is my passion, and is the reason I’ve been so successful in it! I ended up winning Top Beachbody Coach 2010, and have been well into the 6 figure income for the past two years. My fiance Melinda got involved as well, and she is now making 6 figures as well! We both absolutely love what we do, and that’s the reason we have become very successful in the Beachbody Business.
What success all boils down to is hard work and passion. You have to be passionate about what you do if you want to succeed financially and create freedom for you and your family. Are you passionate about what you do? If not, then make a change! Don’t allow yourself to settle. Take a risk, take a chance like I did, and that chance can turn into something unbelievable.
