Taking Action Now

It’s been a while since I’ve written a motivational post, and I thought now is a great time to write one about taking action. How many of you said you were going to do something, and then ended up either forgetting about it or just thought that there was no way you could accomplish it, so you just gave it up? I would be a part of that group, and can think of many times where I kept putting something off and then eventually completely forgot about it because I put it off for so long. In fact, I can think of a few times recently that this has happened to me!  This seems to be the case for people who are looking to start their own business venture, fitness journey, or even try to better a relationship. There is always tomorrow, right? Wrong! Nobody knows if tomorrow will ever come or not, so why not focus on getting things done today? It’s all about taking action now!

Back when I was in high school and college, I was one of those guys who always put off projects, reports, or even studying for an exam until the last minute. I always thought, “Well, I’ve really got a lot to do today, so I’ll do it tomorrow,” and then tomorrow comes, and the exact same thing happens, all the way until the point where I’m up all night trying to finish a 12 page report or study for a final exam the day before it’s due or time to take the test! I ALWAYS procrastinated, and even though I finished college with a 3.2 GPA, which is pretty good, I sold myself short on what I could really accomplish if I would have taken the initiative and gotten things going a little sooner. If I could have known what I know now and taken action a little sooner. But the past is the past, I’ve learned my lessons and now moving forward with my life, accomplishing things very quickly because I’ve stuck to one golden rule, to take action now!

After I graduated college, fell out of shape and gained a glorious 25 lbs, I knew it was time for me to change something. I kept searching and searching for something that would help me lose the weight, and eventually I came upon the P90X infomercial one night, and I don’t know why, but I felt the program was for me. I was overly excited, ready for the program to arrive at my doorstep so that I could begin my journey towards a healthy lifestyle! My mind was set on succeeding, and when I set my mind to something, not even a freight train can stop me from achieving it. It was pretty funny, though, because even though I was ready to take action and commit myself entirely to the program and the diet, not many other people believed in me. They knew how bad I used to eat, and according to them, there was no way I could stick to a healthy diet for a long period of time, just no way! The old me wouldn’t have been able to, but the new me most certainly would be, and of course I did. I took action immediately, completely making a 180 with my diet, switching from high sugar/fat/calorie content food to following the P90X Nutrition Guide as close as possible, and then never looked back! I stayed focused, and it lead to me getting into the best shape of my life, a career change, and allowed me to eventually create complete financial independence for my family and I, all because I took action.

So many people put off things because (1) they are afraid of failing, or (2) they are just too lazy, and that’s why the majority of Americans are unhappy with where they are in life. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve come across that tell me they are going to do this and that, make a change for the better for both themselves and their family, and then 6 months down the road I see them again and they are in the exact same position they were before. And the worst part about it is that 6 more months, a year, 2 years down the road they will be sitting in the exact same spot, unhappy with where they are in life, all because they didn’t take immediate action. If you’re tired of being overweight, stop complaining about it and do something! That’s one of my pet peeves, when people complain about their job or weight and then don’t do anything about it. Take a risk, take action, and you will be glad that you did! By taking action now, you’re working on improving your life on step at a time, but if you keep putting it off, chances are you will either completely forget about it and never accomplish your goal.

Are you going to be one of the people who always put off things, complain about life and how unsatisfied you are with your job or weight? Or are you going to be someone who takes action now, commits yourself 110% towards what you want to accomplish and never look back? That choice is now. If you’re ready to make a change, don’t put it off any longer and take action now! You will be happy that you did.

I’m here to help motivate and support anybody trying to make a change in their life, especially in the area of fitness. You can make me your coach for free by clicking here.

I gotta say man I’m one of those people. I’m a 24 yr old single dad and there isn’t anything I want more to get my life physically and financially on track for myself and my daughter. This post is very inspirational and it makes me think about my life. I always make excuses putting something off till tomorrow. Whether or not to work out or go hang out with friends; or eat that free donut or not. After reading this its reassuring to see someone else was in the same boat as me one time. In 2008 I was 175 and in Sept 2010 I peaked at 218. So I started to take action and got down to 204 in Dec 2010. Lately I haven’t lost any more and plateaued hovering around 205. My goal is get back down to 180 so I decided to start P90x again and actually stick with it this time. This post is helping me stick with it. Thanks for the words of wisdom and believe I’ll be checking back for more. Cheers.

Hey Josh, thanks for the great motivation article!

I have one small question, would be glad if you replied…

I’m a small guy, 5’6″ and 140 lbs, and I look skinny and I hate it. Could P90X do any good about it? I’d like to seem more mannish :) I’m 25 years old btw.

    Thanks in advance, you’re awesome!

  10. @Small Guy. P90X will definitely help you reach your goals, just as long as you follow it how it’s supposed to be followed and put in 100% effort! If you do end up purchasing it, do it through this site, which will make me your official coach, and I will be here to help you through the program.
