Healthy Protein Snacks

Most people on a healthy diet are always looking for great snack ideas to help them get in their 5 meals during the day. It’s easy to find snacks that are high in carbs, but what about healthy protein snacks? Over the course of a few years since being on P90X, I’ve discovered some great healthy protein snacks to help me get through the day.

Healthy Protein Snacks

  1. Cottage Cheese. Cottage cheese is a great snack that is high in protein, but you need to make sure it’s Fat-Free or 1%. Personally, I like 1% better because of the taste. Fat Free doesn’t taste too good.
  2. Beef Jerky. This is actually one of the snacks that I like to take with me on long trips. Beef jerky is very high in protein and usually pretty lean, making it low in fat.
  3. Protein Bars. I absolutely love the P90X protein bars and like to eat them on trips and vacations.
  4. Almonds. For the past few weeks, I’ve been eating about 10 almonds as my mid-afternoon snack because it’s recommended in the Brazil Butt Lift Nutrition Guide. Make sure they’re aren’t salted!
  5. Peanut Butter. This is one of my personal favorites and something I think I might be addicted to! I will use JIF Natural Peanut butter as one of my snacks throughout the day. However, you have to be careful you don’t go overboard because peanut butter can be very high in fat.

Now you guys have some healthy protein snacks to get you through the day!

  1. How about chocolate milk coach? I’ve heard that’s a good protein source.

  2. I was just wandering how u put on the mass using p90x, did u have to eat more than recommended?

  3. @Ryan. You can find out what I did to gain mass by typing in “gain mass with P90X” in the search box. You will find 3 posts called just that.

  4. @Mike. Chocolate milk is high in carbs from all the sugar and is not a good protein snack.

Chocolate milk is sometimes recommended as a post-workout drink (if you don’t have the recovery formula), since its pretty close to the 4:1 carb:protein ratio thats recommended for post-workout. As such, its not much of a protein snack. More like a carb loaded snack (which obviously isn’t good) with a dash of protein.

  6. I love greek yogurt man!! always gets the job done!!!

Ive always thought beef jerky would be a good snack because of all the protein, but why is it in tier 5 of michi’s ladder?

  8. @Brett. From the research that I have done, it’s a good protein snack.

  9. My girlfriend eats the products from Kay’s Naturals- they make a line of cookies, crackers, cereal etc that is almost equal grams carbs to protein and very tasty!

  10. @Marc. I’ve never heard of it before and will have to check it out.

Hey there Coach! Thanks for posting this info! I have a couple questions…do you know if the beef jerky has a lot of sodium in it? Also, do you know when Beachbody is coming out with their new protein bars which will be lower in sugar? And lastly, a comment…Organic Low Fat Cottage cheese is very good for you but the taste is terrible so I mix it in with a shake. I also mix in two tablespoons of liquid Flaxseed oil for every 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. This helps improve cell health and counter balances the damaging effects of glucose that gets into the cell nuclei. It can even cause damaged cells to repair themselves… 🙂

  12. @Matty. Most beef jerky is pretty high in sodium, but I’m pretty sure you can get some with lower sodium. Also, I just saw on the website that the new bars have been released! Thanks for the tip on the cottage cheese as well!
