How to Lose the Love Handles

how to lose the love handlesBack when I was playing college baseball, I was in pretty good shape, but there was one area on my body that used to constantly burdened me, and that was my love handles. Call it genetics (or bad eating habits), no matter how hard I worked out, I didn’t know how to lose the love handles! It wasn’t until I finished college and fell out of shape that I discovered the secret on how to lose the love handles, and I’ve decided to share those secrets with you below.

Tip #1: Eat Healthy. Eating healthy is very important when trying to lose love handles. Why? If you follow a healthy diet, you will be monitoring your calories and taking in foods that are important for the body. The way to lose weight and body fat is to burn more calories than your consume. Remember, though, you burn calories with everything that you do throughout the day, not just with your workout, so it’s important for you to take that into consideration when determining your caloric intake. You want to make sure you stay away from foods like candy, doughnuts, chocolate, cookies, and cake, which all contain a lot of sugar, or simple carbohydrates, spiking the insulin levels and promoting fat storage. Staying away from these foods and replacing them with healthier alternatives such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grain products will help you lose weight!

Tip #2: Commit to a Workout Routine. It’s also very important to work out consistently. Like I mentioned above, the way to burn fat and lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in, and working out burns a ton of calories, especially if you’re doing high intensity workouts. Not only does working out help you burn calories, but it also increases your metabolism, helping you burn more fat and lose more weight.

Tip #3: Push Beyond Your Comfort Zone. For some reason, most people hate getting outside their comfort zone. Whenever most people do something that isn’t normal for them or they are uncomfortable with, then they quit doing it. In the case of working out, whenever there is pain (or burn), people stop exercising. If you haven’t worked out for a while, it’s inevitable that you will be sore for the first 1-3 weeks. Instead of giving up during this time, push through the soreness. Instead of quitting the moment you begin to feel burn during an exercise, try to get 2-3 more reps. This is one of the main reasons why I’ve been able to get into excellent shape.

Tip #4: Be in it For the Long Run. After I completely changed my diet and committed myself to a workout routine, results didn’t come overnight. I still had those love handles for a good 2 months after I started, but the stubborn fat areas were beginning to diminish. I’ve learned that patience is key when you’re trying to get into great shape. The positive things that you do every day will set up your success in the future. Be patient and stay focused on your goals.

If you can take the tips that I have given above and work them into your life, I can assure you that you will see results. If you’re wondering how to lose the love handles, do these things above and you will get results! These are things that I have personally done to make the shift from an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthy one.

  1. Man, thanks a LOT for the info!!
I’m having a big trouble with this.. I’m on my first day-3rd phase of P90X and I still have some love handles on the side-front of my belly, but my face, arms, legs are tight to the bone! I get afraid that trying to lose those handles I may end up losing muscle or getting skinnier! I don’t really know what to do..

  2. I had to fix the last comment: actually those “love handles” (don’t know if they’re called that) are over my abs, can’t get to see the abs clearly, they’re not that big but they won’t let my abs show clearly. On the sides of my belly I’m really lean.

  3. @Isaiah. You just have to commit yourself to both the diet and the workouts and you will get results.

  5. @Jorge. If you aren’t getting results, then you’re not doing something right, and 99% of the time it has to do with the diet. You have to commit yourself 100% to the diet if you want to get and keep great results! Commit yourself to the P90X Nutrition Guide.

dude i commited my self along time ago.
i havent eaten anything UNHEALTHY in 8 months Straight.

the thing i think is wrong with my results is because im not eating the right foods?

i lost my p90x nutrition guide so i had to make my own diet plan with foods i had at my house..

tell me if my food plan is wrong so i can know which foods to take out and put foods to put in…

    8:30 – Cereal whole grain
11:30 – stir fried whole grain noodles with vegetables and chicken
3:15 – i eat whole wheat pasta with chicken and vegetables and nutrition shake
    6:00- banana with another shake
9:00 i usually eat an apple with yoghurt.

other foods i eat are cottage cheese, whole grain bread , more fruits, organic peanut butter , and more!

please tell me what foods are wrong? im real confused i thought all this was extremely good for p90x?!

  7. @Jorge. Your entire day is nothing but carbs, and that’s why you aren’t seeing results! You need to log what you eat into http://www.myfitnesspal.com so you can see just how many calories and the nutrition breakdown of what you’re taking in. For the Fat Shredder Phase, you need to take in a fat/carb/protein % of 20/30/50.
