Hey man, I was just wondering what I could do instead of using this recovery formula from beach body. Currently I am the only one working and I just don’t have the extra money per month to purchase this stuff. Let me know if you have any other options.

  • Josh (author) said:

There really isn’t a great subsitute for the Recovery Formula because of the ingredients it contains. However, since you’re real tight on money, 8 oz of natural fruit juice and a protein shake post-workout will do.

    Hi Josh,

My wife and me are going to start the P90x program this week (really pumped up to get started!!!). I have a question for you regarding the Recovery Drink.

I’ve noticed on the P90x nutrition guide that you take the recovery drink as part of your morning snack. However, reading various people’s blogs, they state that they take the recovery drink post workout. We are going to work out before dinner, with this in mind, should we take the recovery formula post workout or morning snack only or take it both times? If we take the recovery drink after our workout (instead of in the morning), should we substitute something else in the morning?

Also, in regards to protein shakes, should we always have one post workout? (I assume that this shake would be mixed with water instead of skim milk like the breakfast shake). Should we take protein shakes at any other time during the day? (Other than when it is prescribed within the nutrition guide)?

Thank you very much for your time in responding to my message

    Regards

    Troy

There is no need to take the Recovery Formula as a morning snack. Just take it directly after your workout, which is the most important time. Also, if you’re taking the Recovery Formula, take the whey protein shake about an hour after the Recovery Formula, along with your dinner. The other time that I recommend taking whey protein is in the morning. Let me know if you have other questions.

can i take whey protein instead of the recover formula

  • Josh (author) said:

They are two separate supplements serving a different purpose, and both are great to have.

Hey Josh, Congrats on your success. I was wondering if I take this drink after workouts and stuff will it help me bulk up some if I use the right amount of weights during workouts. I weigh about 130 and I am 17 years old about 5′10.

  • Josh (author) said:

This is an excellent supplment that will help with your results. If you purchase from this site, I will become your coach.

I signed up for P90X Results and Recovery Formula auto order/ship prior to selecting you as my coach. I just wanted to make sure you are getting credit for my orders. Let me know if I need to cancel my current auto order status and resign under you.

Hey Greg! I just checked and it’s actually not showing me getting the credit for the Home Direct orders. Did you go through this site? If you went straight through the main Beachbody site, you will have to cancel and then reorder through me. If you could do so I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks man!

Hey Josh. I am a female 5′3” 125 # and really wanna tone up and look really lean. Can’t decide on P90X or insanity. Also wondered about the recovery drinks. Not sure about them cause i dont wanna load up on carbs.

  • Josh (author) said:

Insanity is for people who are in very good physical shape and is a very high intensity program. Usually I recommend people to start out with P90X first. Also, taking in simple carbs like what’s in the Recovery Formula is very beneficial and important for recovery. No need to worry about the carbs because they are just burned up anyways.

  • Jose said:

Hey Josh. How do you balance out drinking whey protein shake, recovery formula and a glass of shakeology?

  • Josh (author) said:

I use Shakeology as a meal replacement, usually lunch, protein shake an hour after the workouts, and the recovery formula directly after the workouts.

  • Jose said:

Back with another Shakeology question, haha. I’ve noticed that on your diets you never mention Shakeology. For Lunch you have actual meals like fish, chicken dinners and so on. It’s pretty pricey, have you stopped using it?

  • Josh (author) said:

The reason I never mentioned Shakeology in any of my diets is because the product wasn’t out at the time that I posted my diets. Those posts are very old, some even about a year and a half old. Now, I use Shakeology as a meal replacement for lunch, and probably the best supplement I have ever used.

  • John said:

Should I take the recovery drink after aerobic workouts as well? I ask only because I see that it has creatine and I wonder whether it would me required to creatine maintenance.

  • Josh (author) said:

Yeah, I recommend taking the Recovery Formula after each workout! Let me know if you have other questions man!

  • Noah said:

i noticed the recovery drink has 36 grams of sugar how is that helpful?

  • Josh (author) said:

You need to read the post about the importance of simple carbs post workout. Click here to read it.

  • michael said:

How many scoops of whey protein do you use per shake?

  • Josh (author) said:

I usually take 2 whey protein shakes per day.

  • Rickey said:

ok close to getting started trying to get oreder,so recovery formula post workout,30-40 min. later protein shake before breakfeast or just with?

  • Josh (author) said:

Recovery Formula directly after the workout and whey protein about an hour later.

  • Mike said:

Question, I am getting ready to start P90X and have been going over the nutrition guide. I will be working out in the morning so I will be taking a recovery drink right after, shower than breakfast. It shows to take a protein bar and recovery drink as a snack. Do I need another recovery drink?
    Thanks

  • Josh (author) said:

The most important time to take the Recovery Drink is right after your workout. You can use a whey protein shake as a snack. Also, have you made me your coach yet? If not, you can do so by clicking on this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/11685

It seems like the same question was asked 15 times – read the entire thread before you post! Plus it might answer some other questions you have.

    As a summary:
-Shakeology as a meal replacement, usually lunch
-Protein shake an hour after the workouts
-Recovery formula directly after the workouts

Thanks for all the advice Josh

  • Josh (author) said:

Haha I get a ton of repeat questions! Glad I can help.

  • Ed said:

    Hi Josh

I have just bought the P90x pack and was hoping to get some of the supplements – I’m in the UK though and can’t find them anywhere!

Is there any way I can get them shipped over? Would you do delivery to the UK?

    Cheers

    Ed

  • Josh (author) said:

Unfortunately, we can’t ship to the UK. Sorry!

  • Tim said:

    Hey Josh,

The recovery formula is kind of expensive for me to purchase every month, so I was wondering if its okay to use only 1 scoop of the recovery formula post-workout instead of 2. Is 1 scoop enough carbs after my workout? Thanks

  • Josh (author) said:

One scoop should be fine. However, you might want to also drink 6oz. of natural fruit juice for the added simple carbs.

  • Michelle said:

I have wasted money before on buying huge containers (the only size available) of various recovery drinks, only to find out that they taste absolutely disgusting! Is there any way I can get some samples of the P90x recovery formula to try before I commit to buying a big container?

  • Josh (author) said:

I would send you a sample pack, but I don’t have any for the Recovery Formula. I, along with just about every other person that’s used it, thinks it tastes great!

  • Alex said:

I would like to know if is ok to mix the recovery formula with the strength and muscle supplement.

    Thanks.

  • Josh (author) said:

You will need to ask the Nutrition Experts in the Beachbody community forums.

  • Gabriel said:

what does this shake taste like?

  • Josh (author) said:

Gabriel, it tastes like an orange cream sickle. It’s AWESOME!

  • Chris said:

Josh can you specify what you mean exactly by natural fruit juices? Any particular brands?

  • Chris said:

I meant do you mean make one from fruits or buy “natural fruit” drinks or something.

  • Matt said:

I was wondering how long one Recovery Formula Tub last, considering the price I would want it to last for awhile.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Josh (author) said:

    @Matt. It’s a one month supply.

  • Stan said:

    Josh

hey man great work i watch your video everyday because im just inspired. My question though is i cant really afford the ecovery drinks plus whey protein. So immediately after my workout whats my next option? Also if i take whey protein an hour or so after what should i do in the morning?

    thank you

  • Josh (author) said:

@Stan. You’re going to need to find a substitute for the Recovery Formula for directly after the workout. Even though this isn’t nearly as good as the Recovery Formula, chocolate milk will do for now.

  • Demian said:

    Hey Josh,
I made a previous post but this is a more appropriate forum for my question. I work 3 jobs and 2 of them are at night. In order to give the sessions everything I’ve got I’m going to have to workout when I get off at 6am and then go to bed shortly after. Is the recovery formula still my best option or should I consider Casein or possibly a mixture of the two for a postwork supplement. Right now I’m not having any issues sleeping after the workout but I’m not sure how the creatine will come into play. Thanks for all your hard work and helping to keep us motivated.
