My Top Supplements for 2010

I think it’s safe to say that this year has been one CRAZY year, but in the midst of all the madness, I’ve had the chance to use some amazing supplements along the way. I would say that this has been a year of experimenting with supplements, hoping to find some that I’m 100% confident will work so that I can recommend them to my family, friends, and all of the people that I coach. So, out of all the supplements that I’ve used, here are my Top Supplements of 2010!

shakeology(1) Shakeology. I was introduced to Shakeology back in January of last year, and since that time I have used Shakeology every single day! Shakeology is a meal replacement, but more more than that because it contains so many healthy benefits. In my first month of using Shakeology, I lost an extra 10 lbs, but my fiance Melinda ended up losing 25 lbs! Once we understood the value and KNEW it worked, we started recommending it to all of our friends, family, and the people that we coach. My dad lost 35 lbs, mom 10 lbs, sister 25 lbs, and her husband lost 35 lbs from using Shakeology as a meal replacement every single day. We even had a good friend of ours lose 100 lbs in just 4 months from using it, which is amazing! On top of the weight loss that everyone experienced, we have all seen an increase in energy and just feel “healthier” overall because of it. Shakeology is BY FAR the best supplement that I have used, and the one I recommend the most, and that’s why it’s the #1 top supplement of 2010! Make sure you check out my Shakeology Review!

(2) P90X Recovery Formula. I didn’t truly understand the importance of using a post-workout recovery supplementp90x recovery formula until this year, and after experimenting with many different supplements, the one that has been most beneficial is the P90X Recovery Formula. If you’re not using a post-workout recovery supplement, you’re not receiving full benefits from your workout! Why? When you work out, you use up your glycogen stores, and when you use a recovery drink like the P90X Recovery Formula, you replenish those glycogen stores, while at the same time the carbohydrates transport protein, creatine, glutamine, and arginine into the muscle cells, helping them recovery and develop quicker. A recovery drink is a MUST, and the best one that I’ve come across is the P90X Recovery Formula. Check out my Recovery Drink Review!

(3) Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein. I’ve been experimenting with different whey proteins for MANY years, and the one that I like best in the ON 100% Gold Standard. Many different brands of whey make me feel bloated, but I don’t experience that with ON. Plus, I seem to get the most results from it and it tastes great as well. That’s why it’s the top whey protein!

Jack3d(4) Jack3d. I have been going back and forth about which pre-workout supplement was better, Jack3d or 1.M.R., and after really thinking about it, I think that Jack3d is better. I have been using 1.M.R. again for the past month, and I’m really starting to not like the crash that I experience afterwards. I feel great during the workout, have a ton of energy, but the crash is terrible. Plus, I don’t stop sweating after the workout! With Jack3d, I don’t experience the crash, and it still gives me a great boost for my workout. That’s why Jack3d is my top pre-workout supplement of 2010! (Update 2/15/13- After doing more research on Jack3d and the controversial ingredient, I stopped taking Jack3d a few years ago because of the risk of the ingredient being dangerous and I can no longer recommend it. For the past few years I have been using a pre-workout supplement called E&E, which is made by Beachbody.)

  1. Josh,

Do you think it will be okay if I, a fourteen year boy, about to do P90X, would take any of the above, when I start P90X, or should I wait until 15, 16, 17, 18…? Or should I just ask my doctor?

    Thanks in advance

    Jason

    😀

  2. @Jason. I would go and check with your doctor bud.

  3. Josh,
Is there a specific reason why you chose ON’s Gold protein rather than their Platinum one?

  4. @Manny. I didn’t know there was a platinum one.

    Josh,
I agree with everything except the whey protein. There are much better products out there. Even though the Gold Standard reads “protein isolates” its only about half isolates…. the other half is concentrate protein which is essentially a filler. You want something without concentrates.

Hey Josh. Creatine is cycled 2 months on and one month off. Since the recovery formula has creatine in it, does it need to be cycled?

  7. @Justin. Nope.

  8. Hey Josh,

Is a preworkout supplement in place of Creatine or should they be used together?

    Thanks,
    Mark

  9. @Mark. I’ve used them together before.

    Hi Josh,

Great vid!m I am about to start P90X but I want to gain mass as I do it. Should I go with heavier weight 45 to 50 lbs dumbbells or should I go with moderate weight like 35’s, untill I complete the first 90 days then up the weight in the second round?

    Keep up the awesome work!

    Thanks for your help

  11. Josh /

@Jermaine. If you’re looking to gain mass, you want to focus on the 8-10 rep range. Use whatever weights that allow you to get that.

Also, am I your coach? If not, you can make me your coach by going to this link: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free/47458

  12. Love all of these and use them myself. i recommend them on the GooBurner site too.

  13. Josh, I am just starting P90X and am not too big into supplements. My question are you supposed to take all of the supplements that you listed above throughout the entire 90 days? Are you supposed to take all of the supplements at the same time or are you supposed to “rotate” time periods when you take them?

  14. @Marc. The supplements that I’m taking every day right now are Shakeology and the Recovery Formula. I stopped taking a pre-workout supplement and whey protein for the time being. The two that I’m taking are what I feel are the most important.
