Kevin’s P90X Transformation Story:
I started P90X in mid 2009, but id like to give you a little info on how things were before then. When I was 17 I was a AAU national Tae kwon do champion worked out daily and made fitness my life. As years went on I was always lifting weights doing pushups keeping myself in shape. Even though my diet wasn’t always the best I stayed in pretty ok shape till about 2006, 2007. That’s when I fell into a very deep depression things just weren’t right in my life, I lost focus of who I really was and what was important. In 2007 I learned that I was going to have a daughter, this really put a whip into my life. We did not plan this so it was a shock but a very good surprise. Unsure if I could be a good father this added to my anxiety. We had Gracelyn Rose Gauthier on April 9th 2008 she was the best thing that ever happened to me. She made me realize how great life really is and made me take a look at the world differently.
I did not do a pushup eat anything good from mid 2006 till I started p90x in 2009. My diet consisted of ho ho’s Debbie cake’s those little Christmas tree cakes and what ever was around. No thought went into me, When I was not working, I was taking care of my daughter. My fiancé Leah worked opposite shifts as me so feeding and changing the baby is what I did. I would always complain that there is no time to do anything, In fact I complained about everything. I was very negative because I didn’t like myself, I didn’t have drive in my life, I wasn’t progressing, I didn’t have goals I didn’t have passion.
I broke down one night, Leah looked at me like I had lost it. I told her how I was feeling that I needed to progress I have to have something to reach for. My entire life I could always find a goal something to work towards, that kept me alive gave me passion. I felt like I had nothing. I was wrong I had my amazing healthy daughter, and Leah what else do I need. Well even though I had them my inner me needed that drive that passion .I needed to find a goal and I needed to progress.
Since I was a regular couch potato I saw tons of p90x infomercials watched them over and over. I was watching these people work hard and get crazy results in only 90days.I told Leah if anything on TV works its this, there is no way you can work out like that and not get results. Ding it hit me I’m going to do it, I asked Leah of course what do you think about me doing P90x? She answered Do it.
Day 1 was chest & back after this workout I was in love, but was also hurting more than I had ever hurt before. But with the knowledge that I had from years of training I knew the more its hurts the better the results you are going to get. The first week was so painful, I kept thinking how the heck am I going to recover when I have to workout almost everyday! That’s where the nutrition came in, I new I had to quit all the garbage eating if I was going to get good results with this. I quit all my bad habits cold turkey and started eating clean and a lot of Protein!
Something happens to your brain when you exercise there is a bunch of science behind this that im not going to get into. But after 1 month of doing p90x and changing my diet My mental attitude had come full circle. My body was changing fast but its was going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to get rid of all those ho ho’s I ate. I stuck with the classic program all the way thru the 3 months, the last month I started running in the morning 3 to 4 days a week along with some boxing. I did this because I was super motivated and ecstatic about the results I was getting from p90x. I finished the 3 months and kept on going thru more cycles. When I say P90X changed my life I mean it. It truly pulled me out a slump and gave me passion and drive again.
One of the best things I like about p90x is that you don’t have to put any thought into planning your workout, its already planned out. All you have to do is show up and give it your honest best everyday.
