Most of you don’t know this, but right after my first round of P90X I decided to take a vacation by myself. I thought that since I was in great shape that I could eat what I wanted, and wouldn’t have to work out. I relied on my metabolism to burn up all those unhealthy cals I put into my body. Well, I was wrong. After a week of eating what I wanted, I ended up gaining 9, yes 9, pounds. Needless to say, I learned my lesson and never did that again. It took me a good 3 weeks of super clean eating and doubles workouts to get back to normal. The reason I’m writing this post is to make sure you don’t make the same mistake I did! I have taken 2 more vacations since that experience, and have been able to stay in excellent shape and not feel terrible when I got back. So how do you stick with P90X on vacation?
The first healthy vacation tip is to eat as clean as possible. Now, I know that you’re on vacation and you want to splurge a little, and I completely understand that, but just make sure you don’t go overboard! For example, if you go out to eat (which you probably will every night), you need to make sure you do your best to stick with a healthy meal like grilled chicken or fish and veggies. If you have to get a dessert, make sure you split it with someone or just take a few bites. Sometimes a bite or two is enough to satisfy those cravings! Of course the best thing to do is skip the dessert all together, but like I said, you’re looking to enjoy the trip and relax a bit, so just make sure you allow yourself to cheat in moderation.
The next healthy vacation tip is to try and work out every day, preferably in the morning. Why? When you work out, not only do you feel better about yourself while on the beach, but you also increase your metabolism for the rest of the day. If you brought P90X on the vacation with you, then you can easily do most of the workouts right there in your hotel room or even in the hotel gym. All you need are the P90X resistance bands and a laptop if you’re doing the workout in the room or the fitness guide if you want to do it in the hotel gym. The P90X fitness guide shows all the exercises for each workout, so you can take it to the gym and complete the workout. Working out on vacation is very important if you want to maintain everything that you’ve accomplished with P90X!
The worst thing you can do on vacation is not workout nor eat healthy the entire time. Remember, it’s very easy to put back on all the weight you just lost from P90X, so you better think twice before eating that whole bowl of ice cream or 8 pieces of irresistable white bread from Carrabbas (Yes, I did that on my first vacation after P90X). As much as you might enjoy it while in the moment, believe me, you will hate yourself when you get back home and jump back on that scale! If you’re going to cheat, do it in extreme moderation, and remember how hard you worked to accomplish your goals. Also, get your workout out of the way in the morning so you don’t have to worry about it all day! Understand that 1 week of bad eating and no exercise can take 3 weeks or more to get back to normal! Is that worth it? Take it from me, it’s definitely not! Just commit to P90X on vacation!
