Ah yes, the question that many fitness junkies are asking themselves, should I do P90X or Insanity? Well, I guess I can’t say “fitness junkies” because there are quite a few people that are very out of shape and have never worked out in their lives who are looking into extreme programs like P90X or Insanity, which is just fine! In fact, I was an out of shape 180 lbs tubbo looking for a complete program that would challenge the heck out of me, and P90X was the answer, at the time of course! After P90X, I went ahead and did P90X Plus and then the dreaded Insanity. Now that I’ve gone through both programs, though, which one do I recommend the most? Time for you to find out.
Which is it, P90X or Insanity? Which program do I feel has the edge when it comes to getting the best results? And the winner is….P90X of course! I mean, how can I go against the program that helped me lose 15 lbs and 10% body fat, and build muscle at the same time? I can’t! However, let me explain my reasoning. Insanity is a great program, don’t get me wrong, but in my personal opinion, and that’s all it is, an opinion, it lacks one of the most important factors in achieving the best results, and that’s resistance training. When I went through Insanity, I ended up losing quite a bit of weight in the first month, but I also lost a ton of muscle that I gained from P90X. In fact, before I started Insanity I was curling sets of 45 lbs, but after one month of Insanity I was back down to 30 lbs. For some reason if I focus on just cardio training I burn way too much muscle. I’m the kind of guy that likes to have a little bulk, but yet be very cut at the same time, which I can definitely achieve, but not with cardio workouts alone. Because of the balance of cardio and resistance training, along with a well balanced healthy diet, I was able to achieve unbelievable results with P90X! (Check out my full P90X Review)
However, just because I’m the kind of guy that gets the best results from a combination of cardio and resistance training doesn’t mean you are, or that you even have the same goals as me. Maybe you absolutely love cardio workouts and are just looking to get super lean, and if that’s the case, then Insanity would be the perfect program for you. Also, Insanity is a great program if you really enjoy pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and want a real test. When it comes to toughness, Insanity has the edge because I have never had to push myself that hard before. There are points during Insanity where your heart rate is so high that you feel like you’re going to faint, but for some reason I really enjoy that. I’ve always been one to push myself hard, and Insanity was a real challenge. It’s funny because I think back to the cardio conditioning in college and thought that was hard, but then I go through Insanity, making the conditioning look like little pee pee cardio. If you’re a college athlete and looking to increase your cardiovascular endurance, Insanity is the way to go. (Check out my full Insanity Review)
So in conclusion, which is better, P90X or Insanity? I guess when it all comes down to it, it all depends on what you want. If you’re looking to get super lean, go with Insanity, but if you want to get stronger and toned, P90X is the answer. However, now that P90X2 is coming out, I have a feeling that P90X2 is going to take the crown over them both!
