P90X Review: Day 1, Post-Injury

Ugghhh. That’s really all I can say about the workout yesterday. Before I get into the actual workout, though, for all of you that don’t know, I haven’t been able to workout for 2 months because of I broke my hand and had to have surgery. I wasn’t able to work or anything, so all I have been doing for the last few months is sit in front of the computer and work on Beachbody coaching stuff. I went to the doctor yesterday, and he cleared me to work out, but warned me that I shouldn’t go all out for a while until I can build the strength back. I took that advice lightly.

Before Chest & Back, I decided to take some measurements and found out that I had lost 2 inches off my chest, 1 inch off my biceps, and gained an inch on my waist since the injury. Very frustrating because I’m pretty much starting from scratch again, but then again, I sort of expected this to happen. Earlier in the day, I had started my loading phase of creatine by taking 5g in the morning. About 35 minuted pre-workout, I decided to take another 10g and also Jack3d, a new pre-workout supplement for energy. Needless to say, I was super pumped for the workout!

I started off Chest & Back very good, pumping out 37 push-ups, and then 11 wide grip pull-ups. However, I made one big mistake. I went all out, and pushed myself till extreme failure for the first 4 exercises. I was toast. The one thing that most people know about me is that I always push myself to the max, and this is one time that I really wish I would have paced myself. By the 4th push-up exercise, I had to pause it because I was sure I was going to throw up. I also started having some pain in my hand, and knew that I was doing too much right away. I ended up completing the first half of the workout and calling it quits because I didn’t need to take a chance and injure my hand again. I also discovered how completely out of shape I’ve become.

After the workout, I took my whey protein shake and recovery drink, and then ate dinner about an hour later. For dinner, I had 2 chicken breasts covered in light asian dressing along with some green beans. Today, I’m extremely sore in my chest and back, and can’t wait to do some Plyometrics!

Josh, sounds like u almost overdid it. Buttttttt, u know that already!!! LOLOLOL I know how u feel tho, waiting for my shoulder to recover and not re-injure it is really frustrating. Keep up the good work tho Josh, u’ll get back to where u were before ur accident and surgery. BRING IT, AND U WILL GET THERE!!! 🙂 just watch out and don’t in-jure urself again 🙂

  3. Haha I did over-do-it. It looks like I’m going to have to take the workouts a little slower than expected because I underestimated the amount of pain that I would have in my hand.

  4. Cheer up man!
This is the starting of a year and also your workouts. Take it easy, go at your own pace and I wish you luck in fulfilling all your goals!

Hey Josh, just one more question… I have a straight, regular pullup bar. Is the IronGymExtreme a good alternative to the P90X pullup bar if I am short on money??

  6. The P90X bar has all the different grips necessary for the different exercises. You won’t be able to do all of those exercises with a straight pull-up bar.
