P90X Review: Day 2, Post-Injury

I decided to skip Plyos and do Shoulders & Arms for the second workout. The day started out great, and I had a great breakfast that included a whole wheat english muffin, eggs, turkey bacon, coffee, and a protein shake. I didn’t get to sleep until about 3 AM because I made the mistake of taking Jack3d too late in the evening. I went to bed at 12:30 and literally laid there for a good 2 hours, still feeling the after effects of that potent supplement. It makes my chest tingle, which seems to be a common effect from everyone I’ve talked to who’s taken it.

For lunch, I had a salad with fat-free cheese, fat free ranch, turkey pepperoni, and onion. Pre-workout I decided to take Jack3d again, but took 2.5 scoops instead of one, and really felt the boost in energy this time. I also had 8 oz. of natural fruit juice and took 5g of creatine as well. Needless to say, I was pumped up to workout again. When I started Shoulders & Arms, I was on fire, busting out rep after rep and feeling great. Even though I had lost quite a bit of strength from the 2 months’ rest, I was still doing a decent amount of reps. Everything was going great until I hit the half-way mark, in which my hand started getting very sore from the bicep exercises. Apparantly the heavy weights were putting too much pressure on my hand, and it reached the point where I had to quit early again. I tried to do another bicep exercise, but my hand just wasn’t letting me.

Post-workout I took another 5g of creatine along with my protein shake and 8oz. of natural fruit juice. It’s very, very important to take in simple carbs post-workout to aid in the recovery and transfer of protein to the muscles. I ended up having dinner about an hour and a half later. We ate turkey and green beans. I attempted to go to sleep at 12:30 again, but this time I couldn’t fall asleep until about 5 AM. I don’t think I’m going to be taking Jack3d in the evenings anymore because I can’t be up that late!

    hey josh,

Frst of all, just wanted to say wow, your results are amazing, great job, you’ve inspired me to work hard everyday and bring it. Jst one question, do you prefer jacked over noxplode? I’m taking noxplode now, i do feel something from it, it just doesn’t seem to last that long.

  2. Thanks man! Jack3d is giving me more energy than NO-Explode, but it really makes me feel funky and I have a hard time sleeping at night. Now, it could be because I’m taking it too late or that my body just isn’t used to it.

    Josh,

Just started day 1…..are you doing your workouts before you eat breakfast or later in the day?

  4. I do my workouts after work around 5:30, right before dinner. It doesn’t matter when you work out though.

  5. josh,
i am looking to gain mass, is it better to do all of the different resistance days after another with a day of rest after them, or is that too much resistance training?

  6. Whatever you do, you need to make sure that you give each muscle group 48 hours before working again. Also, I still recommend doing 1-2 HIIT cardio workouts per week.

  7. ok and i have 2 hours of wrestling everyday (6 days a week) and we do A LOT of running so i think i get enough cardio during the week but i will add them when its over

  8. Then you shouldn’t have to worry about doing the P90X cardios if you’re already doing a lot with wrestling.

    Josh,
Ive bookmarked your site and I have been reading your articles for a while now and I want to say Thank you for the help.

Im about to start my second round. This round Im looking to gain some more mass in my chest but still keep the abs as much as I can. Ive taken your advice to add an additional chest workout later in the week so I will give that a try. I do have one question…I work out in the morning…around 10 or so before work…Im taking Force Factor so I take that before I eat…but what should or can I eat before my workouts…I usually do Egg Whites with some green peppers and tomatoes and a piece of whole wheat toast…Should I be taking a protein shake too? I just dont want to eat too much so Im on the verge of throwing up during the workout. I do have some other questions but thats my biggest one now. Thanks for your time.

  10. I’m glad the posts help man! OK, you don’t have to eat before your workouts, but can, just as long as you give the food an hour to digest. However, the most important time to eat is after the workout. Also, you need to look into the Recovery Formula, which is essential for proper recovery post workout.
