When someone first decides to make the change to a healthier lifestyle and gets involved with some sort of workout program like P90X, or PX90 as some call it, they are super excited! Motivation is through the roof and they are ready to give 100% for the entire 90 days to get into the best shape of their life, or so they think. Come 3 weeks into the program, the majority of people start losing motivation, might feel like skipping a workout or two, might decide to have a piece of cake of go out drinking with their friends, but some will still stay committed. Those who stay committed work their tails off trying to reach their ultimate fitness goal, but will eventually hit a road block on their way to it, and that road block is a weight loss plateau.
It happens to the best of us, even me. Weight loss plateaus or just hitting a plateau in general is not fun, and can be extremely frustrating when someone is committing themselves 100% to both the diet and the workouts. It might occur during your 2nd month of P90X or not even until your 3rd round, but eventually results will begin to slow or even halt until you make some changes. Whenever you hit a weight loss plateau, the key is to make adjustments to both the workouts and the diet. You must always keep your muscles in a state of confusion (muscle confusion) and change your diet to your changing body.
Let’s first talk about some things that you can do with your diet to get out of that weight loss plateau. If you have been going through a program like P90X for quite some time, have lost some weight and gotten into pretty good shape, your body changes and demands changes in your diet to function properly. Your energy levels might be low, and when that happens, it’s your body’s way of telling you to increase the calories and the carbohydrates. Carbs and fat fuel the body and give you energy throughout the day, and when your fat stores are lower, carbs are the primary energy source. If you burn through your carbs fairly quickly, then your energy can be crap, and you might not be able to get in a good workout. Your body might even enter into starvation mode, all depending on how many calories you’re taking in. As you get into better and better shape, you need to take in more calories because your body demands more just like it does with carbs. Some people will stick with a low amount of calories or carbs during their entire 90 days of P90X, which could ultimately lead to a weight loss plateau.
Once you have made the proper changes to your diet, now it’s time to focus on the workouts. More than likely the changes to the diet will help you get out of that weight loss plateau, especially if you’re going through a program like P90X because of the muscle confusion, but sometimes there needs to be more changes to the workouts. When that happens, you have to come up with different ways to “confuse” the muscles once again. In order to do so, you can get different programs like P90X Plus, Insanity, P90X One on One, or even Turbofire. All of these workouts are advanced, and will help you get out of that weight loss plateau.
Getting out of a weight loss plateau involves changes in both your diet and the workouts. Whatever you do, don’t give up, because there is always a solution! It might take some time to figure it out, but you will eventually.
